scaramanga
Hi, does anyone have views/recommendations on selling an A3? I'm swapping my 3-dr 2.0TDI for the sportback and debating whether to sell privately or just let the stealer have it. Am a bit weary of the private sale route, but obviously the dealer will pay less than fair value for the car. Any advice would be appreciated... Terrier
I would always sell privately, an unfair deal from a stealer is an understatement! I sold a A3 1.8T through Autotrader, the mag was on the shelves on the Thursday and I'd sold it by 9.30am that same day. I needed a quick sale so I put it in a few hundred less than book and stated no offers. Spend a bit of time setting up the photo, always a winner! DHA
How old is the A3? The private market is pretty dead at the moment for most cars
scaramanga
Thanks for the suggestions. Will put an ad up on autotrader. Car is about 2.5 years old, 2004 on a "04" plate...

Briggs
You should always get more selling privately. Generally, I don't think main dealers really want our old cars once they are coming up and beyond 3 years old! I think I lost out on between £500-£1000 by trading in my Mk4 Golf, but at the time I didn't have the time or energy to sell privately and was too interested in getting the new one on drive - kind of wishing I'd made more effort now!
