djcool
I live in a pretty rural area but my car has to be kept on the driveway as our garage is full of crap and would be a tad too small anyway. One of our neighbours keeps birds, and as a consequence my car is always being shat upon. I go through countless Quik Detailer sprays just to keep the paintwork clear! We also have a cat which likes to sit on the bonnet above the turbo and on the boot and roof when it gets hot. Sometimes I can go a few days without using the car and despite not going anywhere, it always ends up dirty two days, which is somewhat annoying. I'm considering getting a car cover to put on my car. 1. Is this a bit over the top? 2. Where can I get a good cover that won't scratch but without paying hundreds? Any reccomendations? petsy
if the bird droppings are worse than the cover scratching your paintwork then I say go for it.
M8CKN
I would get a cover without a doubt, its not over the top. The only problem I can think of is little hoodlums who would usually not give your car a second look (as it isnt a subaru!!) messing with it to try & see what you are "hiding"
NewNiceMrMe
DJ, I don't think its a bit over the top at all. I even considered putting one on my wifes 320d as it sits outside of our garage on the drive and the cats have a habit of perching on top of it when its hot (its black, so it gets very hot in decent weather). I decided against it for the pure inconvenience for her, but if it was my car I'd definitely buy one. In fact....I'm still thinking of getting one for the 6 in the garage. It collects dust in there during the week and it annoys the hell out of me when the only safe way of getting it off is to hose the car down and then wash it all over again (and sometimes it'll not have moved an inch since it was last washed!!). Maxyboy
i would consider killing the cat.....or maiming it slightly....or at very least......give it a good bloody talking to.....
Ian_C
[ QUOTE ] I live in a pretty rural area but my car has to be kept on the driveway as our garage is full of crap and would be a tad too small anyway. [/ QUOTE ] Unorthodox reply I know, but it you live in a rural area and have a small garage, do you have room to put a car port on the side of the garage? You don't need much height clearance, especially with a saloon rather than a hatchback. Adds value to the house. Added benefit that the glasshouse never freezes in winter. I use one on my Boxster if the car has been in the garage and not moved for a week.

djcool
Cheers for the replies - luckily there are no local chavs (very very small village), no large local towns. I don't think I'd have a problem with it being stolen, or people trying to look under the cover. (Touch wood). Glad to see its not seen as being over the top! I'll have to have a look round to see what is on offer. MrMe- My uncle keeps a couple of nice cars in his garage, he has a Ferrari cover for his 328GTS which is excellent (but VERY expensive) and has a cheapo Argos car cover for his 911 C2S. I really don't like the feel of the Argos cover and it looks like the sort that might scratch. He was looking to get a cover made for his new DB9 which arrives in March but that will be indoor only and a bit more expensive than I'd want to pay (!) - but might be ideal for your garaged 6. I'll have a word with him see if he has found anywhere yet.

JonnyGTi
I'm sure I've seen some decent looking covers in Costco for around £15 - £20 ?
djcool
I've picked up one today from a local motor factors style store, reduced to clear from £40 to £19. Not too bad. Seems to fit the car nicely, soft interior for the paintwork and breathable! Still would like one made to fit the car, though! It kept setting off the alarm, though - so I've disabled the interior sensors which seem to have shut it up for now.
bpsmith
I would steer clear of the £15 jobbies but you seem like you got a bargain on sale, which is a totally different matter!
NewNiceMrMe
An update on this. I enquired with The Car Cover Company and have been given a variety of options to choose from. They vary from top of the range Stormshield covers at £369 down to the ones I'd need for internal (garage) use at £179. They look very professional indeed and are custom fit for the make and model. They even have a protected zip compartment for the doors, so you can get in and out of the car without removing the full cover. I'm probably going to buy the £179 one as it'll save the dust getting on the car during the week.
P_G
MrMe, what is the inner lining made of and is it likely to scratch the paintwork? That's the only thing stopping me buying one for my car for the same reasons as you, primarily dust.
djcool
I received a brochure in the post today from http://www.hamiltonclassic.co.uk/ The quality of the fabric (sample was sent!) seems very good, and not too pricey @ £105 for the 15'9 one to fit my car. Details and brochure request on their website. Promt service!
P_G
Have you got any pics Boarder. Not that I don't trust the website, but someone with one and decent pics of the materials used in the cover is always handy.
