Tiptronic or Manual in the 'S'

The reason why it rains so damn much here is that every time a Porsche gets specced with a tip, God sheds a tear.

The only excuse for ordering a 911 or a Boxster/Cayman with that shocking lump of shlushmatic poo is if you have a disability.

Have driven tips in 993, Boxster, 996 C4S/C2/TT and they were all ruined by it.

Horrible horrible things ordered only by 40+ old farts or women who bought a Porsche to be seen in rather than drive.

And no, doing lots of urban driving is not an excuse - I live in London and would never ever consider one.

There I go, sitting on the damn fence again smile.gif

I agree about tip & manual adam, have to disagree about age of buyers I'm sure you'll see that there are far more over 40's with porsche's you only need to be an opc waiting to collect car to see.

I'm sure if you re-read my post you'll see I am saying that tips are predominantly ordered by over-40s,I am not arguing that most Porsches are ordered by under 40s (which given their price would be unlikely).

Also fortunately Gabster is talking nonsense, even if (which I am not) you consider the Cayenne which you should order in tip and suits the barge-like, kids to school nature of a 4x4 SUV.

Stats from the 650 911/Boxster/Cayman cars for sale currently in OPCs in the UK:

Boxster 248 cars 204 manual

Cayman 64 cars 54 manual

911 348 cars 247 manual

so 77% manual thank god

Well,I do realize I'm in the vast minority but I just purchased a triple black Boxster S with triponic.I live in Ft,lauderdale Florida and the traffic can be highly congested...also,I have never driven a manual transmission.

I'm 59 and had a lexus SC430 and loved it.I have had 4 corvettes,all automatic.

I have always loved the look of the Boxster so last week on a rainy day I decided to test drive the Boxster S....It was triponic and I have never ever driven such a wonderful fun car..perhaps the trip has been improved but it shifted beautifully and provided all the power I need. The brakes and handling were simply marvelous.I bbought it on the spot.

So,if your really not into shifting I would highly recommend the triponic....PS I used to think a Vette was a sports car til I drove the Boxster..Wow,,,even an old fuddy duddy like me can still have fun in a Boxster with Trip!!

Look at it another way, would you not bother buying a Porsche if it was only in tip mode??

A tip Porsche is still better than just about any manual from the other marques.

I am an auto lazy bastard, but after driving the manual I wouldn't buy anything else, well, maybe when the DSG arrives on teh used market I might. wink.gif
