A8_Tony
Hi all, after P_G posted about getting some sports cats as replacements for my fecked ones.....it got me to thinking. What are the benefits, both real and perceived? I don't want to spend money on sports cats unless there's a real good reason (more power being an obvious one ) Cheers fellas
Paul
according to Mr Milltek, rarely offer power increase, but do give better throttle response. was a very open opinion of sports cats in general.
ashleyadam
Is that it no power gains at all, is that for all Milltek systems
Paul
it was a very sweeping/ generic answer, but he was referring to the milltek sports cats. i know the S3 sports cats offer no performance increase, just might aid response and spool up of the turbo. [/ QUOTE ] It depends on the car. It seems on 1.8T's that they really only come into their own on 300bhp+ cars. On the 4.2 the main restriction seems to be about breathing and the sport cats do help that.
Paul
funny you mention that, the new RS4 was in conversation at the time.
P_G
I was also led to believe that it far better suits large capacity engines. Lets it breathe more easily with less restriction. I know it has made a significant difference in the performance of my car albeit that Audi's wizadry has robbed mine of some of its power recently. Driveability was much better torque wise, bhp was up a bit.

So far the best quote I've had has been £650 for 2 sports cats Compare that to £1k/side and very quickly the sums are in favour of adding the sports
ashleyadam
Ok guys help me out hear can I add sports cats to a s4 b7 cab or full system
P_G
Should be able to, you can get them for an avant and saloon so I don't see why not for a cab. Cat back of full system, just needs a bit more tinkering because of cross bracing.
Scotty
[ QUOTE ] funny you mention that, the new RS4 was in conversation at the time. [/ QUOTE ] I guess it makes sense. The RS4 should be the most opitmised car with the 4.2 so I would expect smaller benefits of tuning/after market mods as Audi will have taken it closer to the limit already. P_G
Agreed, if you talk to Milltek I don't think they've many advances in power output, just in depth and volume of the exhaust note and thats by adding valves to the system. I think their almost straight through added 15-20bhp but in terms of ratios the percentage increase is less than with the S4 system. But even so it is not significantly different as say for example in converting an S4.
