J_C
Spotted in Chippenham on Friday evening. I thought I'd post it up as these are very rare. 'B' reg so I guess that's a 1984/5 car. Looked very tidy and all original as far as I could tell, and although the paint had dulled in places there was no sign of rust anywhere.
pascalbrown
my dad had a 200 quattro turbo until a few years ago, his was a D plate. Think he sold it off though... a very advanced car for it's day!

jimdiesel
Smitten think what else was on the roads at that time. It was and still is a groundbreaking piece of design. Look at the equivalent 5 series.

rothwell
Think what Ford had to offer in 1984, I've got a Capri somewhere and that's only a 1986 and is not nearly as advanced as these old Audi's.

Ari
I remember my father test driving one of those when that shape very very first came out, the Audi 100 version though, not the 200. He'd had two previous shape Audi 100's, (GL 5E's) but he didn't get the new shape one, went for an Audi Coupe instead. Am I right in saying that the engine in that 200 above is basically the same engine as was in the original Ur quattro? I do remember the Audi 200's being a bit of a Q car, much quicker than they looked. Good spot. (Oh, and let me add another for Smitters, philistine!) The Series 3 200 was first introduced with a turbocharged 2.2l in-line 5 cylinder 20V engine developing 220hp in the summer of '83, with a N/A version following a little later. A quattro model was introduced in early '85. So no, not the same engine as the Ur but I think you're on the right lines: IIRC that car's engine was initially an uprated version of the one used in the Series 2 200. I might go and ask him if he wants to sell it...

jimdiesel
John, are you sure it was the 20V unit. I thought that this was introduced for the 89 model year.
J_C
I think you may be right there Jim. I just double-checked this in 'A History Of Progress - Chronicle Of Audi AG' and it confirms what you say. Oddly, the book I first checked ('Audi' by P.Harris) makes no mention of the 20V engine only appearing in 1989. So I guess this time 'assume' made an ass out of me...and me! [/ QUOTE ] At least the 200s had a proper roof In europe they also had the 20v Ur engine -- real sleepers and would still scare plenty on todays roads, maybe only in a straight line but....... Think they were only the last year or so - 1990 models <
