DanG
My wife had a 2.0T in the US and we have now bought an avant in the UK to use while we are here. Its now done 1000 miles in about two months, and spends a fair time sitting quietly in fairness. Now, I went to check the oil, tyres and fuel it up to full today as we are heading back to the US for a while as of tomorrow v early , and its very black oil after 1000 miles. In the US you have an oil change at 5000 miles / 6 months as standard (free servicing). then 10k miles and then 20k.... I am wondering if the UK Variable Service Plan is actually any good. Our car is showing 16k miles until service?! Surely there will be black sludge issue like in the older B5 1.8T engines? I just cant believe that this is going to protect the engine in another 6 months........ My Touareg runs a nice golden brown oil all the time, and is only just turning dark brown at service time..... not black, and its the same synthetic stuff.... anyone know?? nickfrog
Surely it is quite normal for the oil to be black, otherwise it would not be doing its job. As for AVS, I would not spend more than 12 months on the same oil.
EssFour
Engine oil(s) turning black after 1000 miles or so is not necessarily a bad thing. All engine oils will turn black at come stage. The time they do varies between manufacturers and grades. Black oil could be an indicator that the oil is working well. However, if it is like sludge then there may be a problem...
