A8_Tony
Anyone got it on CD? I'm debating whether now is the time to start doing some of the mechanical jobs on my car now she's hit the 154k mark!!!! I need to do my spark plugs, oil and filter over the next few weeks, so any instruction (and recommendations on plugs) always welcome Cheers chaps
drmotorsport
Yes I have, but for the basic service items you shouldn't really need it! The recommended plugs are the Bosh Super Platinum jobbies with 4 ground electrodes - about £5 a piece but regarded as worth it. Removing the oil filter housing cover is a PITA as some genius designed it upside down so oil WILL go everywhere! You'll also need a 36mm ish socket for the filter cover which should be torqued up correctly afterwards.

Atomic
Could be 'FT' as used to applied to certain engine parts...

charlie61
John at work has a neighbour that teaches at the local school, the neighbour decided to save some money by doing his own servicing on his escort. changed the oil and put new plugs in, then john gets a knock on the door, er i've just put new plugs in my car but it's running funy john goes to have a look, right start it up, whoh whoa switch it off he's only managed to cross thread 3 of the 4 plugs that badly that compression is blowing out up to 3 feet away. John looks at it and says you'll need to take it to a garage as you've forced them in that tight they won't come out, of course they will i'm a teacher I know everything so he gets a massive torque wrench and gives it an almighty tug, dink was the sound as the plug snapped. he'd knackered it that badly he needed a new cylinder head, no more servicing for him then good luck with the plugs
Ska
Thats almost as bad as a fellow automotive engineering student at uni buying an Escort eclipse off a woman who was told to put the best grade of oil in her engine. Two days after having bought the machine this student came to me and a couple of other guys saying the car was sound too "Tappity" . Pulled the rocker cover and found sunflower oil in it which was confirmed by the lady as she had been topping the engine up; but since she put her best brand of sun flower oil in the engine stopped leaking(fatty deposites everywhere) . Serves him right should have known better and checked it out properly
charlie61
another guy at work came in asking john about his oil light, it's on all the time he said, I kept topping it up but it just stays on, now it's full to the top but it's still on what do you mean full to the top says john, full to the top mark on the dipstick, no full to the top says the guy. john goes to have a look and he's right, took off the oil filler cap and it was full to the top he'd driven it 15 miles to work like that, god knows how it didn't explode
