Edd_W
I have a strange fault with my Mk2 golf. It has stood for 10 years in a garage on my parents farm but now I want to get it road legal again. I have checked everything electrical and it was all OK at first but after cranking the engine over for a while with no fuel to build up oil pressure etc... I poured in about 5 lts of fuel to get it running and ried to start it but the starter failed to operate from the key. I can turn on the ignition and jump the starter and it starts instantly but the starter curcuit seems to have a fault. I do not have a wiring diagram to start tracing the fault. Does anyone have any info which would help before I start dismatling things from the ignition switch onwards. I do think it could be related to the imobiliser in the alarm but I still need to trace the wiring becuase I think this just disables the fuel pump supply not the starter. When it is up and running again I will be selling it if anyone is interested in a 2 owner Oettinger 16v golf which has been in a time capsule. The engine settled to a smooth idle almost instantly which I was amazed at.
