Fuel choice and power loss question.......

As posted earlier my weekend RR gave me poor figures. I was down between 10-15 bhp from stock (224bhp). AMD suggested the MAF might need changing as there were no ECU error codes showing up. Spoke to the stealers today and they are taking a look tomorrow but are insistant that this kind of drop in power is totaly down to the fact i dont run the car on Optimax? I find this claim to be way off the mark. I except using normal 95ron will not get the best out of my car but to lose that much power? I would think a couple of horses might be lost but not this many? Can anyone on here veriry this or are they talking out of their rear end as i suspect confused.gif

They could be right, as mine does seem very sluggish when i cant fill up with optimax and have to use the 95ron stuff. But i bet they dont even know how to test the MAF properly as mine certainly didnt. Have a search on here on how to do it properly and take that to the dealers when you take the car in.

This is more than possible, though 5-10hp may be more realistic figures. Did you mention to AMD that you were running 95ron?

Can't understand why you would buy a performance mota and run it on 95ron if it's performance your after (yes I know some folk buy a car for the pose factor).

VPower/Optimax works out @ around £50 per year extra not taking into account the increased mpg benefits!

You'd be daft not to smashfreakB.gif

Funnily enough I've run my Mk V R32 on Optimax (now V Power) since new and obviously the car runs fine. However I did try a tankful of Tesco 99RON over the weekend and noticed a difference. There seems to be more top end "go" and I noticed that the exhaust tips seemed cleaner i.e. less soot than when using VPower

Totally agree, exactly the results I'm getting

From memory I don't think there is a shell/bp station near tspar 169144-ok.gif

But I bet there is a Tesco 169144-ok.gif

Your right i have a Tesco just around the corner. Ok so thats a damning condemnation of my fuel choice then !. Not complaining, i only ask such questions to get what i consider to be constructive and usually top quality advice from you all so i will now give the 98 stuff a run and see what all the fuss is about. The reason for my 95 choice is only financial as i hate being ripped off for fuel at the best of times but i take all your advice on board and will be 98 roning it from now on 169144-ok.gif

i put some stuff in from a total the other day - was the premium and the car drove like sh!t. It kept stalling and felt lumpy at idle and really unresponsive... needless to say it got a tasty load of optimax (or whatever it is now) and it was back to normal again?

I felt guilty for being mean to it with cr@ppy total fuel from a quiet petrol station. Guess it had been sat in tanks for months!

All right, all right youve all now made me feel guilty enough. I shall run the tank dry and fill it with the "golden nectar" at next opportunity !! slap.gif

tspar i would if i was you try and use shell stuff as i have heard bad things about the tescos 99 stuff. Also that the 3.2 litre doesnt like the bp stuff, as mine certainly didnt and my friends audi tt didnt, as well as others i have heard about.

ps i am in no way connected to shell, and do not benefit in anyway from you buying at shell, just trying to give advice.

What's the bad things you've heard about 99RON Tesco?

Interesting link vindaloo but its put me in more of a dilema now !. I had convinced myself to go for V-power but now i dont know. 8.1bhp just for using the Tesco stuff sounds like the way to go, and its less expensive than optimax (V-power) 169144-ok.gif
