simonb
Not sure what to do. A transporter full of 2nd hand cars went by as i was leaving work. I needed to follow it to get to the motorway and proceeded to do so. The lorry turned into the auctions near work. Last car was a gold Lexus LS400, early model with an interesting plate on the back. Not a plate of interest to me really but probably worth a lot of £££ and in my experience, auctions don't bother with them, just sell the car for what it's what whether it had a normal numberplate or something like A1 (this one i saw isn't far off!!). What shall i do?? I reckon the car would go for less than £1k. Shall i ring up and ask if i can make an offer now or what?!! If i do, will i draw interest to the car so that they can cash in on it. Any thoughts?
RedRobin
Doesn't it depend on Charlotte's titties? Ooops! I mean doesn't it depend on who currently owns that registration you want so badly you ache?
simonb
I dunno, i always assumed most cars that go through that auction are dealer P/X's and trade-ins?? Surely someone has noticed it already!?! It's a '** 1' plate FFS!!
Ari
I can't believe that anyone would auction the car with a **1 plate, and if they did everyone would be bidding on the strength of the plate anyway. No motor trader is going to ignore that. But my guess is it'll be auctioned "plate to be retained", if such a thing is possible.
simonb
Probably right Ari. I might give them a bell in the morning to see what time it's pencilled in for and whether there's a reserve on it.
R32North
Remember, the car has probably been recently sold and plate transfer is under way, so the physical plate on the car isn't an indicator that the car and plate are together. Ari
Indeed. When I bought my new car I had my plate transferred from my old one. A couple of weeks later I popped back in for something and my old car was still in the car park round the back with my plate on. In fact I parked next to it and took a photo of the two cars side by side with matching number plates. They re-registered the car when they sold it. Thats what I`m thinking... no such thing as a free lunch. Ive just transferred my current plate to my new car that I will not pick up for another 10 days ( oh the wait.. cann`t take it anymore) Although a new number will be issued to my current car it will still have the old plate when I take it to the dealers.... But you never know... those who dare... good luck [/ QUOTE ]
