RHD Flapper mod switch question (Mark IV)

Many would be familiar with the vortex instructions for a dash mounted switch to control the exhaust flapper.

On the LHD Golfs it runs straight up behind the fuse box which is on the left side of the dash.

I am wondering whether the loom to the rear is on the right hand side on RHD Golfs or does it cross over under the dash and still run down the left side of the car (following the same path as the LHD Golfs). I presume this is the case.

Is the RHD flapper loom assessible somewhere near the fuse box??

Where would be the best place to tap in on a RHD car???

Has anyone rigged up a switch yet on a RHD??

Any feedback welcomed. smashfreakB.gif

If I could get my hands on a schematic of the cars wiring (anyone have a VW tech buddy?) I would probably give this a go myself. I think the wire that needs spliced is in close proximity to the ecu, so it should be easily accessible on the Mk5 too.

PS I've managed to hook up a momentary pushbutton to act as a latching pushbutton (using a few miniature relays).

This should (I hope) allow the GTI's 'Winter On' console switch to be used on the flapper mod.

If anyone wants details, I'll post a pic 169144-ok.gif

A lot of folks do the flapper mod with a switch just

because they can, not due to worries about the police.

It's also less annoying to the neighbors on early morning,

cold starts.

You should be able to find your loom just by shining a light

under the dash against above each footwell.

Some folks have spliced into the wire where it runs

through the spare tire well at the back of the car.

Means extra wiring, but anyone who's ever done a stereo install

isn't afraid to run wires the length of the car.

Probably. As I said though, the easiest way to find out

is just to get a torch and look for it. Folks have found that

if you remove the side panel of the footwell it's a lot easier to

get to the proper wire in the loom instead of doing it the way

I did, lying on my back head in the footwell working way up

under the dash.
