robinchappell
I bought my S8 second hand in Germany with low mileage and my guess is that it didn't get to stretch it's legs very much and that it was used for short commutes only. as a result the distance to the next service was about 10 000km when I bought it. I've been using the car for some great long distance driving (to the UK, Belgium, Spain, Germany) and therefore the engine has warmed up (and therefore the contaminants have been boiled off: which, I think, is one of the reasons motorway driving is better for the engine). The service interval rose to 18 000 KM and is now reducing inline with the distance driven. Should I trust the service indicators (does it have the same meaning as "sealed for life" on the gearbox")? ronmcl
Think I'd be tempted to at least change the engine oil and filter sooner than it's suggesting and within the 10k.

[/ QUOTE ] I'd agree. At least then you have a baseline for all future services. Bg piece of mind for not a lot of cash. Just another thing...It hadn't just been serviced before you got it, had it? When the AVS is reset at service it takes up to 800-1,000 miles to 'adjust'. During this time it will read very low figures just as you described but then rises once its recalobrates itself. Just a thought
robinchappell
Huss: good point I bought it from a dealer and it's part of the Audi system to service before sales. By the way I'm down your way on Sunday (Kingston, Farnham), butI'm driving my wifes SLK and not the S8

It looks like you weren't the only one "down my way". A pal sent me en email this morning...the attachment was a picture with a brand spanking new DB9 Volante parked right outside my house. He called around when I was out Sunday afternoon and took the snap. What a car - well peeved that I missed it. Glorious looking mota. I'll see if I can post the piccy it on here tomorrow. regards huss
robinchappell
At my Daughters school (which is in Paris- homestly!) one of the other parents has an Aston and he has told his Son that he would quite like a S8. I am tempted by the possibility of a swap!
