Calm Chris
Lucky bar steward. How cool is that? I watched him on TV a few times this season and, well you can tell he is young, fresh and talented. Good luck lad, hopefully in a year or two we can all resurect the joys of having a true F1 condender. Here's a little extract from Google news. 11 hours old:- Lewis Hamilton says he is desperate to secure the second race seat at McLaren for the 2007 Formula One season, although the newly-crowned GP2 champion has admitted the team would be taking something of a risk to partner him with Fernando Alonso. Fresh from his stunning success in the F3 Euroseries in 2005, when he won 15 of the 20 races, the 21-year-old McLaren protége stormed to the GP2 title this season - with speculation that he could make the immediate step up to F1 coming well before the championship crown was confirmed. Here's hoping
Luke
I watched him at the Silverstone gp, he was breath taking. Its a shame F1 isnt like gp2, where people can overtake if they are good/brave enough. Mclaren should get him quick, FA and LH would be a great team. I've already booked seats for next year
RacingRed
Raikkonen/Montoya were supposed to be great too. Sorry boys but you can forget any dream team driver lineups, the car comes first. Gone are the days when a great driver could wrestle a mule onto the front row, mores the pity. Alonso is jumping into a badly off-form Mclaren team, and the Mercedes engine seems to be their biggest problem. I think Raikkonen will be 2007 World Champion. Calm Chris
Lets concentrate on what an achievement Lewis aged 21 had actually made . I wonder how much he will get paid to drive for a season for a F1 team
NeilB
After the 2004 season, who would of thought Mclaren would have the 2005 season that they had? I'm going to plump for Paffet, he's been solid in his feedback along with his speed in testing. Also there's the fact he's a canny little bugger when it comes to race craft (Take the DTM race at the Norisring) F1 has already shunned one fantastic drivers in Sebastian Bourdrais. So lets make sure we don't loose yet another IRL/CART.

[/ QUOTE ] Re the merc engine, not true. A very very good mate of mine works for the engine dept at mclaren, their engine is up there with the best. Its how the cars are putting the power down and the aero/mechanical grip. Look how Renault cant win now, their engine hasnt changed but the outlaw on their special part has made them 2nd best. Ferrari without Schumi will never be the same again, the dedication around him will never be repeated. kimi is 'the' brave driver at the moment I've seen him tyre testing and he is scary but Ferrari wont be the same force ever again, IMHO

If they stay on, and Raikkonen is as good as we all think, then he should be able to drop into the team with a relatively smooth transition. If they go this year and the team needs new management then I would be inclined to agree that Ferrari may be out to pasture the next few years. I've not been as close to F1 this season as much as I usually am but I thought they had experienced several engine failures this season?

Schumisalo
I remember him racing when he was 8 in karts, on the Mercedes Junior team racunbg programme- or something like that. He was very confident even then. But likeable, he wasn't an agrrogant little bugger like some young talents we have around there days. Good luck to him. The young talent I'd like to see in F1 is Bruno Senna, I enjoy watching him race very much!
NeilB
As I sit here watching the GP2 Monza races, it has reminded me how annoying the cock will be next year if Lewis gets the drive!
