What do I do?

Every once in a while a dilemma crops up in your life, here's mine.

Grandmother passed away earlier this year and has left me some money. Ever since the R32 left I have been hankering after a plaything for the weekends etc. The wife however want a conservatory!

Now these are my choices :

1 Blow the whole lot on an Elise Mk1 or TVR Griffith or S2000

2 Spend 75% on a MX-5 Mk 2 or MR2

3 Spend 20% on an import MX-5 Mk1

The balance of money from options 2 and 3 to go towards the conservatory fund!

What would you do?

I'm feeling the same since I sold my R32 but dont blow the lot on a car. Do the extra room first then see what you've got left, then go for the import mk1. Mrs had a uk mk1 1.6 from new, an outstanding car that was the most fun you can have especially in the wet! It was so well put together, great car 169144-ok.gif

If you get a Mk1 MX-5 just make sure you avoid the 1989 and 1990 1.6's, the engine was revised in 1991 to fix a problem.

I quite like the Mk1 MR2 idea too, always liked those and love the one my friend has smile.gif

I wanted a MK1 MR2 but so many are rust buckets. I went for a MK1 MX5, cheap to run, simple fun. I have the 1990, and as mentioned in this thread it has the short nose crank, apparently 1% of these can have probs, but mine is fine with 124k miles on it (and recant laps of Donington and the Nurburgring too). No fun in a straight line, but more fun on the twisties than my mk4 gti by a mile. 169144-ok.gif

Thanks for all the comments!

Seems everyone is thinking the same as me, Mk1 MX-5 is the way to go. Have seen this locally. What do you think?

I have to say I don't know a huge amount about it, but sounds like its not a major issue.

Don't think there was a 'fix' as such, Mazda changed the engine design.
