jackrory
hello, i've had my 3yr old avant a week now and have noticed a rattle from the driver side door, only when i hit a bump in the road, but a little annoying all the same, anyone else aware of this problem, is it easy enough to get fixed, also was wondering about the servicing on this car, is it worth going with Audi who i imagine are quite a bit more expensive than an independant garage...could be wrong. it's just i have to travel quite far to get to my "local" audi dealer. thanks. P_G
What sort of rattle is it? Metallic or glass? I am starting to get a little rattle of the glass in the offside rear window as if it is not in its housing properly anymore. An easy enough thing to fix if it is that. jackrory
above the glass in the drivers side door you can run your hand along some plastic.. i think it is this..so i guess it may be the housing for the window. P_G
Could be the glass has dropped sligthly on it's housing, not a big job from what I am told so shouldn't cost the earth to repair. I may be a bit more fortunate than you in that mines' under warranty and it's not so bad so I am leaving it until it goes in for it's second AVS in December. jackrory
i just bought mine used from an audi garage, and it came with a years warranty so hopefully will be covered...any thoughts on the servicing.
P_G
I'd personally go to a specialist / independent rather than a franchise but it depends on the T's & C's of your warranty. Just check out the costs before your book.
jackrory
thanks a lot. also have a couple of very minor scratches on the bonnet and roof, and i noticed that halfords do a scratch repair kit, in the correct audi colours. do you know if these are up to the job. P_G
Are the scratches through the paint to metal of just quite deep. I personally wouldn't touch scratch repair kits as you will always see the repair, especially on the bonnet. Better to try and polish as much of it out as possible or get someone to do this for you and then perhaps lacquer fill the scratch and mask with good polish and wax. Where are the scratches exactly? jackrory
i would say very very light scratches, hardly noticable im just been picky really but i know that they're there. theres one right in the middle of the bonnet and a couple on the roof, i would say whoever had the car before me took advantage of the roof rails. can you recomend a polish that might work. P_G
A combination of Meguiars Scratch X to start off with, the Meguiars Stage 1 cleaner, stage 2 polish and then Gold Class wax works for me. Between Scratch X and Stage 1 Cleaner they take out most of the surface swirls and scratches, polish fills the rest in if necessary and wax just finishes it off. jim52
I had a rattle coming from drivers door handle, the handle outer plate (painted bit) had become loose. It was sorted by local dealer workshop forman in about 10secs.
P_G
I had that too, quick job to be rectified on its 1st AVS. Maybe I'm just too picky about squeeks and rattles, but you kinda want squeek / rattle free driving, far better things to listen to like a V8 or music when the other half is on board!
