I am currently looking for an A4 cab 2003/4 1.8T Sport and was wondering if any of you guys have used the like of DEKRA or the RAC to do your inspection before you buy.....Thinking of a private sale as it may be cheaper than the stealers......Also how about the hpi checks etc...

Any advice greatly received... 169144-ok.gif

I'm not mechanically minded and none of my friends are either - if it's a private sale I'd go for both of those options simply for peace of mind. I guess the whole lot will be £150-200...surely worth it for something costing 50-100 times that which you NEED to be safe and reliable.

It might also flag up any issues with the car - if the seller is reluctant to allow the inspection that tells you a lot in itself...

I always get the buyer to get an Audi approved check on the car, if it goes through I pay for the check, if it doesn't then they have to foot the bill.

If there is nothing wrong with the car that they know of they should have no problem with this, and if Audi do it and they miss anything they will cover repair costs.

Don't bother with 3rd party one, the Audi one is under £100 and well worth it for piece of mind. 169144-ok.gif

Use Audi!!

Ask the Audi dealer to do an hpi check for you too, and give you a print out of the vehicles history.

The Audi one will tell you exactly what, if anything, is wrong with the car, but also what will need doing and when.

Third party ones will just come back and say everything looks fine.

Old bloke who sounded like he had gone round the industry quite a few times - Paid £150 for the cheapo version. He emailed me a very very detailled report within 12 hours of inspecting the car. He identifies a tiny oil leak from the engine block (not really a leak, more like a stain). He then called me to discuss the car. We talked for about 30 minutes as I bored him to death with questions. He was very sharp and precise in his answers. The inspectors might not all be like that though and I guess some Audi dealers know quite a lot about Audis in fairness.
