jimmyt180975
After a bit of thought, i have finally taken a warranty out after the original three year manufacturers one ran out yesterday. I have joined on gold cover with warranty direct for £37.50 per month - they were happy to lower price from original quote of £58 for gold cover and i can cancel any time. They waived the 90 day wear and tear exclusion too. Only thanks to this forum i decided to haggle the price and it worked - i think i could have gone lower too! If anyone else is thinking of contacting them, if you can speak to Howard Phillips on extension 228 i will get a £20.00 cheque back for recommending a fellow R32 owner - just quote my name James Thompson (reg MA53 KFW). RossG
LOL And I've been singning their praises on here for a while now - so I should get all your £20's!!! Seriously though - they've just passed their first major test. A nice fat checque landed on my door mat yesterday, covering the diagnostic work, and the cost of replacing my cooling fans
Oatz
[ QUOTE ] They waived the 90 day wear and tear exclusion too. [/ QUOTE ] What does this wear and tear exclusion entail? Cheers
Roy32
Basically the ware and tear period is so that they do not have to fix something that has been wearing prior to the start of the policy. I'm still debating wether or not to go with them, but as I will only be doing 5000 miles or les over the next year I think they are a bit dear. 1monty
I would have thought they could argue that everything on a car was wearing prior to the start of the policy!

[/ QUOTE ] For £30 odd a month, I'd be inclined to do it Roy. My cooling fans just cost £460 odd. Take off the £25 excess, and I'm still better off this year. And then there are all the other R32 maladies. Remebers, WD's claim limit is 5K, and the list of thinds they cover is pretty good. It's peace of mind - and completely woth it IMO. 1monty
Roy, how did you go about getting them to do a deal? Why did they consider charging less than the quote?
Roy32
Hi monty, what happened was i did an on line quote with them about 6 weeks ago. They rang me the very next day and offered it to me for £490, the on line quote was around £600 I think, I said to them I was still looking around. There was a gap of about 2 weeks and they rang me again, said I still wasn't sure. Then I got a phone call last week and I told them as I was only going to be covering around 5000 miles I would only be interested if it was about £30 a month, he went away for a minute and then said they would do it for £32 per month and now I am covered. Just keep turning them down until your at a price your happy with
RossG
That's exactly the same for me. Online quote followed by a return call. They then called two weeks later and I told them I still hadn't made my mind up. I asked them to call me 6 weeks later - and they did, on the button. I'm slightly more than Roy, but do about 13k a year. I have used them recently for my cooling fans, and they coughed up for the diagnistic work, the parts and the labour - minus a £24 excess. A nice fat checque came through the post about 5 days after I sent the claim away, all I need to do now is cash it! So far, I would recommend them 100%
Oatz
Mmmm very good to hear nothing but positive feedback about these guys, think I might have to give them a bell soon..... Just out of interest is there a maximum amount of time allowed to purchase the policy after your manufactures warranty expires (ie before the vehicle is over 4 yrs of age etc) or does it simply have to be seamlees transition? (maybe I'm getting confused with VW's warranty...) Cheers
Roy32
I believe with the VW warrenty it has to be seemless or they want to do a full inspection, not only that but they wanted £800. I think if your car is coming out of the manufacturers warrenty, and you take out the policy to carry striaght on, warrenty direct will drop the 90 day wear and tear period. Oatz
Thanks for the info my car ran out of warranty back in April - might have to have a go at playing the play the Warranty Direct game and see where it takes me

1monty
Just been trying to do a deal with these people but the 1 month free has now gone so things are not as attractive! Not buying at £40 per month & only 6000 miles a year!
R32Ash
What about these lot: WarrantyWorks ? I can't recommend them personally, but I think this company cropped up in an A4/S4 thread on here recently. The prices look good, though obviously 'cheap' doesn't necessarily mean 'value for money'. Edited to add: The 3 year plans look to be particularly cheap in that it's only around £100 more than for a 12-month warranty!
