vindaloo
I don't know about anyone else but I don't find the speedo & rev counter particularly easy to decipher in daylight (unless it's very bright), but when you put the lights on & the beautiful blue needles & the instruments light up its a pleasure to look at. Now on my wife's Honda Jazz as soon as you open the drivers door the instruments light up & stay that way. How easy would it be to wire the car up so that the instrumentation lighting came on when you put the key in the ignition for instance? I think the illuminated instrumentation looks great but not illuminated looks a bit booring & hard to see
AGK512
sorry can't help. I personally prefer it not illuminated
Tarmac_Terrorist
I don't have problems reading the display but I like the blue display and do wished I could light it up. I assume VAG COM doesn't offer this change?
graeme86
Here here! Great idea. I have to turn on the parking lights to read the clock and odometer on sunny days to get some contrast on the figures. Pity they aren't red pixels like the the Audi speedo ones. I believe that the early A3 Audis had the lights on all the time in the dash and that you can switch the feature on and off with VAGCOM. No dice with the VW ones with VAGCOM There is a separate feed wire to the cluster for the dash lights so it would probably be theoretically possible to wire it to an ignition controlled power. Not sure how to get the dimmer feature to still work though. Maybe rwo feed: an igition feed and a dimmer wire feed and some diodes?

[/ QUOTE ] Yup, my 2000 S3 has the speedo and rev counter illuminated all the time. No idea about using VAGCOM to change settings however. graeme86
Could you also dim them at night according to taste?
S3Bangs
[ QUOTE ] Could you also dim them at night according to taste? [/ QUOTE ] I previously had an S3 and this is one feature I miss. The dash lights on the S3 were photo sensitive..I'e, they adjust to the lighting conditions you were in which was great. You could also dim them accordingly at night though I can't remember if you could switch them totally off now. I personally think its shiite that you have to manually switch your lights on everytime you go through a tunnel in the Golf.. There are one or two other creature comforts in the S3 where I think the S3 beats the Golf hands down Recliner handles on both sides of the passenger seats Electric Seats came as standard
graeme86
The R 32 has photosensitive dash lights once they are on. You can see the sensor below the "O" on the speedo.

[/ QUOTE ] Hey Bangs! You don't have to on the Mark V they come on automatically now.. Have to say regarding the Speedo/Rev counter visibility issue that others have mentioned I don't have a problem seeing it at all.
