Luck1ng
Hi guys, My steering wheel has started to vibrate, so much it makes the whole car shake some times! It seems worse in the mornings, just wonder if anyone has had the same thing, have recently changed to a new set of 18" wheels but it has not stoped it. Cheers!! rich1068
If it's coming in around 55-60 mph then you need to get your wheels balanced. All four for peace of mind.
Paul
first thing is check your wheel bolts are tight/ to the correct torque. an S3 should be 120Nm after that, it can be... balancing defect tyres dirty mating hub surfaces. suspension bushes track rod ends etc etc.
Luck1ng
Thnaks for ya help, there are all new wheels and tyres so they have just been balanced, When we put them on all the mating parts where cleaned. So..... that just leaves something expensive! =[
Paul
Have you checked that any of the weights have not fell off? Are you confident in the fitters that balanced your wheels? Ive had some right dodgy ballenced wheels in the past, I got mine balanced somewhere different and out my area than usual, and because of vibration, had to get my local place to redo them. They found the rear out 100 grams total !!!! across the pair of wheels.
Luck1ng
Thats a very good point, think i might get my local audi garage to do it! Do they charge a fortune?
Paul
never used Audi. But i do only use people i trust now, even if its not so conveinient.
lottiefox
Did the steering wheel vibrate the same before the new wheels? is there vibration anywhere else in the car? Does it come in then fade out - can you drive through it? Does it vary if you stop accelerating? I wouldn't trust Audi to balance the wheels - try and find a Pirelli Performance centre - I use one and they let me watch them do each wheel and they get it spot on. audiquattro
Might sound abit silly but do you have them on the correct side for the tread pattern to go in the correct direction??
Luck1ng
Yer there all on correct, the new wheels seemed to stop the vibration for a little bit, the anti roll bar was replaced at the frount my qst and this also stoped the vibration for a little bit
