Rachel
Just thought I'd let folks know that after a 5 week wait (they had to ship from HQ in Japan) I finally got 4 new bits of sticky rubber fitted to the .:R32 this afternoon. Stock size (225/40R18) and stock rating (92Y). Yokohama Advan V103 - and though I've only done 100km on them today, I can say that though they aren't bedded in yet, they are very quiet and feel as grippy as the GSD3 F1s the car came with. The tread pattern looks suspiciously like the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tyres on the 987 too - and Yokohama make the V103 to fit the Boxster (bonus!). It'll take about a week to bed them in - then I'll post up my subjective view on their merits and failings.
Rachel
Well, after 3 days of hooning (the weekend was taken up with hooning down to the snowfields in the other toy) - the tyres are bedding in nicely. One surprise is that they are still very quiet - and the grip levels are great! Roundabouts are fun again! There is some filthy weather due tomorrow, so I'm hoping to try out their wet weather capabilities. So far - very happy with them.
Rachel
Well no filthy weather (it appears that it'll never rain here again ) - just lots of glorious sunshine (horrible high winds) and air temps of 34-42C. The tyres are bedded and are great - quite different in feel to the GSD3 F1s, but just as sticky as far as I can tell, and a heck of a lot quieter (as I might have mentioned above). Well worth a look if you are shopping around for new tyres.
dogbucket
They seem to be priced about the same as the F1s over here. I agree they do very much look like Michelin PS2's Why did you go for them, an unusual choice I may say?
Rachel
The only car I have ever suffered a puncture in is the R32. I got 3 in the first month of ownership with the Goodyear F1s. I tried some Falkens, the some "quiet" AVS V550 Yokohamas, before deciding to seriously go looking back for very high-end performance rubber. The F1s were crap for dealing with our roads (in terms of being too soft and prone to grabbing lots of road debris - 15cm coach bolt anyone?) but boy did they grip the road! The Michelins and Continental tyres out here are obscenely expensive (PS2s and Conti Sports are between $7-800 per tyre for the R32, just for the rubber). The Yokohamas I was able to get through motorsport contacts for about 1/2 those prices fully fitted and balanced. It was the rubber on the Boxster that really decided me. So I started looking at that tyre family for the R32... The Yokohamas were a good match in terms of technical specs (and tread!) and a more econonomically sensible option - esp. as I'll probably only get 10000km out of them before needing replacement.
