Tarmac_Terrorist
I'm considering fitting a 6 pack cd player to the existing CDR300 head unit. The main reason being that I will probably get a sat nav oem head unit next year, but not just at the moment and I guess i will need the CD pack. Firstly, how easy is it to retro fit this into the armrest (which I already have)or is it much simpler to stick in in the glove box. I assume that the cables just plug into the back of the CDR300 head unit from the CD shuttle. My other thought is that I very very rarely play cd's whilst using sat nav based upon previous experience so assuming I could eject the nav disc, I could use that slot for playing cd's if required. I'm sure I read on here that the DVD sat nav unit also plays audio cd's. Any suggestions / advice would be appreciated
RedRobin
TT > New avatar? I thought you were someone else for a moment! I don't remember if you are especially keen on staying OEM, but the aftermarket alternatives represent better value for money imo.
Tarmac_Terrorist
Yep...time for a change of avatar The old one was a scan from the front of the original MKV GTI brochure which never turned out too well after my dodgy editing! Re the wireless...I am a bit of an oem freak but I would consider an aftermarket model in this department. The thing is, I like the double DIN units but can't justify shelling out towards £1800 for one. My plan is to eventually pick an oem unit up of ebay for about £500 - £600. If money was no object in my decision then I would probably find an Alpine unit based upon previous good experience.
Snoopy
You could just play the CDs on the DVD when not needing the satnav as you say. As for the armrest mounted CD changer if you have the armrest without the changer it use to be different to the one with the changer the cubby is totally different shape. (not sure if thats the case with yours) The one with the changer has a DIN size slot pocket the ones i have seen without the changer have one big cubby. Options for the changer is to mount it under the seat. I think thats were Robbin had his SATnav unit im sure he will have a pic to hand of that for you. Or the glove box of cause or even the boot if you get a longer lead. Or find a crashed MK5 with the correct centre concel in and change it over (if yours is different)
Tarmac_Terrorist
My armrest just has the large cubby hole as you suggest. I' tempted to just go for the DVD Nav head unit but I feel that may be short sighted of me come resale time when most folks would want the CD pack. Snoopy
if it was me and the explosion of Ipods, MP3 players, etc etc i would just add an AUX port into the satnav rather than an autochanger, i think this would be far more sort after in the future. Heres a thread from a US website showing the optional AUX port for theres. http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5233 Remember also that the satnav could even have video input looking at the pinouts. so im sure later it could maybe even play IPod video with the right adaptor plugs. Chungster
I think the ED30 is a rip off for what it is. £3k premium - so not worth it IMHO
