rothwell
Does anyone know what size the speakers are in my A8? It doesn't have the BOSE setup and doesn't sound as nice as I'd like. I'm planning on upgrading everything so it sounds nicer. I still have a whole load of bits from my Passat I had. I've got 4 JBL door speakers I think they are 16cm. I've also got a JBL Amplifier and JBL 12" subwoofer. Obviously the sub and amps will fit fine in the 8's huge boot, but does anyone have any knowledge of the size of the door speakers? Thanks. Ska
Hi Rothwel, Unfortunately the standard speakers are only 4" in diameter and are held in place by Three screws and err.. get this they are made by Nokia of all people Yeh I know BUt these do have tuned enclosures inside the door trim. It'll be a tight sqeeze to get those 16cm speakers in there and you'll have to fassion up a spacer of sorts; I know that 5" go in easier so may be thats the best option or to go for some high end 4" units from KEF or what ever takes your fancy
rothwell
4".... Wow, that's small. It's going to be hard to get speakers that size that will sound any good. I'm sure I had an old Astra at one point with small front speakers, I wonder if they will fit? What are the speakers on the parcel shelf, they look quite big? Ska
The rear hat shelf speakers are about 7-8" wide just for bass, they also house the amps for the all the speakers in the car. I want to change my door speakers as well but have the same problem I've got two 10" subs in the boot which are more than capable of drowning out the door speakers if it wern't fot the DSP EQ. I'm venting the bass through the centre arm rest apature or ski hatch as is known to some.
Atomic
I had a 40cm sub in my old Jetta a few years back.. installation guide told me to place it behind the rear seat facing forwards... Well I did that and the first person to sit the back chundered as a result :| Those were the days... Pioneer Component system - 20 years ago and 1500 Watts (RMS) in my car... proably why I'm still hard of hearing

Soundwave
[ QUOTE ] Those were the days... Pioneer Component system - 20 years ago and 1500 Watts (RMS) in my car... proably why I'm still hard of hearing [/ QUOTE ] hehe, tell me about it. I installed some ridiculous, mad component system in my first car (Nissan Cherry ) eons ago and it shook the car half to bits. Even though it gave me a nasty headache every time I listened to it, I still had it up loud just to justify the toecurling cost of parts and installation - we've all been there haven't we!? ghemmings
What was that? didn't quite hear!!!! A few years ago, I had four 12 inch sub woofers in the boot of my Vauxhall Calibra and 8 inch speakers in the doors, with almost 600 watts rms of amplifiers! "Pumpin' da bass" down town of an evening. What an idiot. Still, we all have to grow up some time.
sjmmarsh
Hayne I thought that was what the Bose option was for. My 16yr old daughter complains that it is too loud! Steve
ghemmings
Steve, I suppose you're right. A 'chav' option for the bass lads of old. I must admit, even though I had a £3000 system years ago, the Bose sound quality is just as good. It's the best factory option car system I've ever heard.
