nhs
On my previous Mark 4, the mirrors were pretty quick at defrosting/removing water vapour residue in the cold mornings. The GTI Mark V seem very slow. What experience have others got - do your heated mirrors defrost/demist quickly? The heated seats on GTI are good however
RedRobin
Rear window seems to take forever! My car is usually garaged though so it's not a problem I have very often.
TwoSheds
Mine took ages to clear,,,, until I realised the 'heat on' position had been changed from the usual place to an out of sight location from the driving position(12 noon). I have electric folding mirrors hence the changed layout. Now I'm actually switching them on they do clear quickly.
silentandy
I keep forgetting to turn my heated mirrors off, will this affect longevity of them?
TwoSheds
Unlike the rear window heater element, switching off automatically after 10 mins, the mirror heater elements don't. So I suppose the answer is yes but I would have thought they would have taken this into account in the design if there was a potential for 'burn out' so to speak. It would be so much better if they were auto switch off really one less distraction.... have I switched them off ??

[/ QUOTE ] Ah - didn't realise they were not auto-off, so guess this means I too also have to remember to turn them off! Do they activate when you have them set 'on' and then hit the rear-window power? Otherwise, think I may have been heating my mirrors since March!! DHA
I was concerned about having them on all the time. In my old A3 (original shape) the thermostats blew which resulted in an always on setting.

You would have been alright for most of the summer then as they only work when the outside temp is below 20c apparently.
RedRobin
Ah, I wondered how my wing mirrors were so good at never misting up!

RedRobin
Not as far-fetched as it might sound! There have been occasions when I have stepped out of my car after a very enthusiastic long drive and felt heat on my legs!
