Any news on TMC for the A4?

Recommended Posts

Hmm, new car scheduled for delivery 8th Dec and apparently been built this past week, wonder if it will have the new disc?

Something tells me it won't and if a new one is released just after I get it and happens to enable TMC (please God!) I will be causing a scene in the dealer if they try and charge me for the new disc!

Person in Audi UK that several of us on rs246.com are in contact with says that the TMC UK software has been tested and they are waiting for DVDs to be manufactured. His latest estimate is that this will be available in January 2007..

Whether that's the 2007 DVD or a special dealer only upgrade DVD (like it was for the MMI UK TMC upgrade) we don't know yet.

I had an email for Tom Peterkin today in which he confirmed that Audi UK are planning to have a 2007 TMC enabled DVD available for RNS-e systems from January 2007. He didn't comfirm the distribution, but the phrases "option" and "upgrade" were used, which makes me think it'll be chargeable for most owners! Have to see how quickly copies filter their way onto the market!

If it's a trip into the dealer and they charge a nominal fee like £10 or £20 to upgrade the unit then tbh I won't complain.

If they try to do it by simply releasing a whole new DVD and charging full whack for it then there's going to be a riot in my local dealer!

Then I'll put money on the fact that there is going to be a riot tongue.gif

If it is a new disk then you will be charged £200-300.

Not a month after taking delivery of the car I won't, trust me smile.gif

Why? Where does it say in the Audi literature that the car comes with working TMC? Surely it would be possible for them to argue that it's an upgrade to the existing system and hence chargeable. confused.gif

Hi, I just had the following back from Audi today:

Hi Mark,

I am the main contact within Audi UK for all TMC enquires.

I cannot comment on why the centre informed you that TMC would be available early 2006, as to my knowledge little or no information has been

communicated to them.

However, the good news is that a retro fit option has been tested and we are

now awaiting delivery from the factory of the relevant disc updates.

We expect to have these available in early January 2007 and we will be

contacting customers at that moment in time.

I'm still unsure whether we'll have to pay for the upgrade - your guess is as good as mine...hope this helps!

Mark

It doesn't say anywhere that the nav comes with TMC or else everyone would be entitled to a free upgrade and none of these conversations would be taking place.

What I mean is that, should they try to charge me full whack for a new disc only a month or so after I've taken delivery of a new car I'll be in the middle of the showroom on a Saturday afternoon having a blazing row with the manager. I've done it before and it works wonders.

I don't see them handing over a £300 DVD for free, even with a one month old car. Is there an official release date yet?

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm not saying I'd expect it for free and I wouldn't object to a nominal charge for an updated disc or an upgrade by the dealer but I won't be paying £300 for a totally new disc.

Regardless of what has and hasn't been promised with regards to TMC, it would be seriously bad PR for Audi to charge over £200 for a new disc when customers have only just taken delivery of their cars, and they know it. All the indications so far are that Audi will try to accomodate existing customers by offering the upgrade free or for a small charge.
