daveknott
the definitive Driftgod review.............. Bruddy Brilliant! This is, in my opinion, THE best bond movie of them all. Sure there are classics like Goldfinger and Live and Let Die, but this will rank amongst the best of all. Think of it as the "Batman Begins" of the Bond series. It is a cinematic representation of the very first Fleming novel and shows us how he became a 00 agent. There are also some very cool moments where you think "Ah, its him!, or wow, so that's how he got his car!" - so many cool bits - don't read any of the reviews - just go and see it, otherwise some moments will be spoiled for you. First, the disappointments. Yes, there is some blatant product placement e.g., a whole car park full of Volvo's, Jaguars, Range Rovers, Ford's - all owned by the Ford Group. You also get some blatant advertising of Sony mobiles, Vaio laptops and Omega watches. and......that's really it. Craig is awesome as bond. He's believable as a cold hearted assassin, but also possesses heart, emotion, charm and wit. When he's on a mission, you just get caught up in his intensity. Eva Green is fantastic too, not just a pretty face and more than a match for Bond. The whole cast are great actually, and the film is much more gritty, like Bourne, but still very much a Bond film. The film is almost 2 and a half hours long, yet never drags. It moves at a breakneck pace, has AMAZING action scenes, brilliant music, and a fantastic script. There's no cheesy lines, and the cast is fantastic. To sum up, exceeded all my expectations, and I want to go and see it again!! Awesome, and the best film I have seen at the cinema in eons. Sparky
I thought it was great. I was getting bored of the gadgets (despite loving gadgets) but it was getting way beyond believable for the last few films. It really needed to be stripped back and done differently. I think this was one of the best Bond films.
m4ttm4son
Agree wholeheartedly. One of the best films and Craig jumps into provisional third best Bond, as long as he carries it through to the next movies.
Tony260Z
Eva Green can keep her eyes on my perfectly formed a*se whenever she wants :-) And yes, bloody good film. One of the best. Craig manages to look like your best mate and someone you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley all at the same time. Wish he didn't run like a T1000 though... Insurance Jon
I can't remember any of it as I was sat next to Mrs sparky and her dazzling looks distracted me. what I did see was soon wiped out by numerous bottles of Laurent Perrier, a couple of Classic Champagne Cocktails, and most of a bottle of Grey Goose....oh and some ammaretto. Suprised sparky remembers any of it to be honest as he went a strange shade of white before leaving.

Rachel
Hmm. Grisly fight scenes, very much our man from the novels. Funny how the le parkour segment (construction site chase) appears in the first bit too - the new flavour of the month for Hollywood? I loved when he sees the DB5 for the first time - it's my birthday! The other great snippet is the cameo of Richard Branson setting off the detectors in the airport and being frisked as Bond chases one of the Ellipsis leads (after stabbing the DB5 owner)... Oh, I loved the DBS - until I realised that it failed the same test (disguised as a bound woman lying on the road) as the Mercedes A Class did originally. steve2
we saw it on Sunday and i loved the fact that there were no gadgets, best Bond ever and could not believe 21/2 hours can go so quick, (just like me driving home from Bluewater)
randellp
As I've said elsewhere, that stunt made the DBS look as stable as a Bedford Rascal, which I'm sure would have made AM not very happy at all. Especially as he gets to drive the thing for less than 2 minutes. I echo the positive thoughts above though. This was one tough Bond who could take and give a hell of a beating. But Driftgod, you can't say there weren't some cheesy moments. Like Bond coming back from the dead after poisoning (especially in the light of the KGB colonel real life - that's poison!), his whole falling in love thing, and the high camp of the bank transfer machine and the poker game which I think was about 1/2hr too long (I did enjoy the tension though). However, Bond films have always had a silliness factor in them so nothing new there. Also - people say there are no gadgets - but he's using a mobile as a plot device for most of the film, as well as rather far fetched use of computers. All in all, a much improved offering, I would have liked it to have been edited a bit more to trim down the card play/sailing around the med bit to keep the pace going during the middle third. felixthecat1
Sorry chaps but I saw it on Saturday and although I loved the film I wasn't totally convinced. The AM was a bit part player and that's a shame. As for gadgets, the defibradooby in glove box got a groan from the bloke next to me not to mention my wife! However the opening chase scene was probably one of the best foot chases ever to grace film, fantastic. Overall score from me 7/10 Tian
danksy
Saw the film last night, and to be honest, I thought it was ok, but not a "Must See". Craig plays a convincing Bond, but boy is he ugly but my missus says he has a body to die for . The stunts/action was spot on, with the bit where the bomber is chased being the best IMHO Was it just me, or did it seem to drag on a bit as well? DHA
It was a good film but not the best. And how come he meets Felix for the first time in CR but then meets him for the first time again in an earlier/later film???
craigyb
And if it's the first film, then why is M a woman? But I did enjoy it.
cheechy
Just remembered one bit that made me chuckle. At the bar in the casino, Bond asks for the classic vodka martini but the barman asks "Shaken not stirred?" "...and what makes you think I give a damn?" It just happens to have been made last. Think Star Wars or Planet of the Apes.

Drug dealer If I remember rightly. Just goes to show the American Dream lives on. Tian

_Tone_
FWIW I think this was a very good film. I have always thought a bond film is split into several parts - The Car, The Women, The Villain, The action and the Theme Tune. For me the Theme was poo - The Women - well not bad more romance but it was always obvious that is was never going to last, The action was intense possible the best in a very long while - as Vespa said "if all that was left of you was your smile and your finger - your still more of a man than anyone else" Quite a line I thought and the girls I was with really liked that! The Car was a let down and its partly because the motoring press made so much of it beforehand. It reminded me of the Red Esprite in For Your Eyes Only - didn't do much but that burglar alarm certainly gave me a howl. Overall the action made up for the weaker parts and as a bond lover myself I thought it was great! My 2p's worth! Tone
