AvantSE
Several weeks ago, someone spat blood in my face while I was on duty; today I have had a call from the surgery to say that my blood test results are back and the "doctor wishes to discuss them with you". poo. AvantSE
And this is why I am worried... Hepatitis C is a blood-borne virus that can cause significant damage to the liver. It is estimated that approximately 200,000 people in England have chronic hepatitis C infection, which can lead over time to cirrhosis and primary liver cancer. The majority of those infected are undiagnosed. The effects of infection vary from one person to the next. Some people will clear the virus at the acute stage, but about 60-80% of people develop chronic infection. Of these, some will remain well and never develop liver damage and many will develop only mild to moderate liver damage, 5- 20% of chronically infected people will progress to cirrhosis of the liver over a period of about 20 years, and a small proportion of those with cirrhosis will progress to primary liver cancer. Bounce
Try not to worry to much until you have something to worry about,i know its easy t osay but i have worried myself stupid over things like this and there to be nothing wrong with me
Crusoe
scary stuff but the chances of passing it on in that sort of contact are probably quite small. The main thing to consider is that they never give you the result over the phone (especially if it was the nurse/receptionist that called you). Just standard procedure to have you in to discuss the results even if it's all clear they want a face to face. He might still want a word about your colestoral or something like that trivial too. Nothing to worry about yet, take it easy i'm sure it will be fine but keep us updated
Insurance Jon
probably just your cholesterol levels. I had some thing similar 2 years ago when they told me they thought I might have leukemia, but needed to do further tests. they lost the next 3 samples and it took 4 weeks to find out I had moderately high cholesterol. AvantSE
I know what you mean, it is just the fact he wants to see me (why would he want to do that unless there was something wrong?) and all I can think of is my 2 week old son, and that his dad my have contracted something thanks to some scumbag. lottiefox
Try not to worry too much - get in to see the doc as soon as is possible to find out what he wants. They will have screened for all sorts of things and it could well be a "lifestyle" thing as Omi says - high cholesterol, slightly low something else, any one of a million things that they just want to talk through with you. They won't tell you results over the phone, so its pretty standard I would guess to get you in. Did you have the tests for any special reason? (without being nosey!) - if so they'll want to feedback the results in the light of your original question. Good luck and try not to worry. AvantSE
Lottie, I only had the test after the blood spitting incident, to see that Mr Scumbag hasn't passed on anything nasty. Unfortunately, they can't test for HIV until 3 months has passed, so I still have that joy to face. Hopefully he will just tell me I need to cut my cholesterol or something as you suggest ! What is more frustrating than anything is that the assault police charge was dropped!! So he has got away with it scot free. I am seriously questioning whether I want to do this anymore. JamesB
Well, it is possible but very unlikely. First, the blood will have been diluted by saliva so it's not like a direct blood splash. Second, if it were to be transmitted, unless you had an open bleeding wound, the only point of access would be the eye. Third, the blink reflex is remarkably strong and the your eyes would probably have been shut (even momentarily) when it hit. Fourth, even if it undiluted blood went directly in your eye without a blink, the chances of transmission by that route are low. I'm not saying this makes it impossible but the odds are strongly in your favour Edited to add: And do you know if the scumbag had hepatitis or HIV? AvantSE
When I say he spat blood, it was more of an aerosol of blood from a mouth injury he had sustained in a fight. So the droplets were very small. I also got blood on my hand but don't think I had any open wounds that it could've got into. Still, at least I got a new shirt issued as the other one is booked into property as evidence. Thanks for the reassurance guys, appt. is at 1610 today so not long to wait. AvantSE
[ QUOTE ] Edited to add: And do you know if the scumbag had hepatitis or HIV? [/ QUOTE ] I actually asked him and he said no, but then he's a convicted criminal so I can't really rely on what he says LOL.

AvantSE
PHEW. They called me in because my HepB vac needs a booster, but can't do it FOC - I would have to pay or get my employer to pay (fat chance). And the one thing I was tested for, HepC, they have documented the results that came back. Doh.
Bounce
Does that mean you got the all clear?
AvantSE
Well...sort of. He said the result for HepC wasn't documented specifically, but the general comment was that there "probably" wasn't anything to worry about. He is going to phone once he has chased up the results. Why are these things never simple?
Bounce
Well thats good, its never simple with my doc's either i had test a couple of weeks ago and was told to phone for the result, i phoned 4 times to be told the doctor needed to speak to me, when she did call she said it was normal, but during my waiting time i had every life threating illness going Sounds like you need not worry to much
