lmmlmmam
Lovin' my new toy but... is it me or are the standard headlights pretty ? The dipped beam in particular is woefully dim. They seem to be set somewhat high as well which is making maters worse. Have I made a mistake in not getting a car with Litronics? I've had Xenons on my last two cars but regularly drive my wifes car with Halogen lamps and never felt with that any major loss. I've read in the manual how to adjust the beam. Does anyone know what size Allen key is required to do the job? I'm tempted to fit some better bulbs (Osram Silverstar?). Is the removal/replacement of the units relatively straightforward? Rachel
Might it be a country thing? My 987 has halogens - and they are awesome...
lmmlmmam
Thanks Rachel! Good to know that the Halogen lamps shouldn't be awful. Can't think why it would be country specific, although I guess they may multi source the bulbs. Is your's also H7 bulb for dip & H9 for main. I've just heard this morning that one of my headlights is going to be replaced under warranty (due to minor staining on the inside of the glass). Hopefully this will help. They'll also check the alignment whilst it is in. If they are still poor I'll be replacing the bulbs.
Rachel
You might be right about the globe sourcing - I must admit I haven't taken mine apart, so cannot answer you w.r.t. H7/H9. They are as good as the R32's Xenon/Halogen combo - probably actually better on the roads down here in the wet as the R32 Xenon's do not light up the roadside/curbs very well when it is wet. The yellower light of the halogens does a much better job of this.
lmmlmmam
I haven't taken mine apart (yet) but it quotes the bulb fitment in the owners manual.
richy_uk
Mine are not bad - not brilliant but certainly not the worst Halogen's I've had. I'd just wait and see what the OPC can do.
Ben
Mine had the bi-xenons and they were fecking great. I'd seriously doubt that any new lighting standards would be that poor, and old 993 maybe, but a new 987, no way.
lmmlmmam
Hopefully they'll be sorted next week. I'm sure that them being high is making matters worse. The mains are bright enough but so much light is wasted scattering around. But the dips are woefully dim. My daughter (7) has asked on several ocassions if I've got my lights on! lmmlmmam
I've got a 56 plate Box 2.7 as a loan car at the moment. It also has halogen lamps. They are much better than mine. Very similar brightness to most other road users. So hopefully mine should be sorted.
lmmlmmam
Good news, the lights seem much better! One lamp unit was replaced and both were adjusted. They seem brighter and much more of the light is going were you need it. Still may fit some high performance bulbs, but based on this evenings drive it's no longer a priority.
