hi guys,

I ordered my S Line TDI Sportback a couple of months back and have just looked on the configurater and they are now speccing them with full leather instead of half leather.

This is obviously going to have an effect on the residuals in the future with mine being so close to the newer version with full leather.

is there anything i could do about it at this late stage? The car was due to be built last week. Is it worth a moan?

Matt

Moan like feck that they have changed the spec.

When Audi changed the spec on Mk1 TT some customers got money back.

I would moan like madas well, The TT situation was as follows, Audi produced a TT sline saying it was exclusive and only a certain number where to be introduced to the UK and then a few months later they introduced an upgrade to the TT including all the sline bits apart from the badges, I think the sline owners got almost 2K back.

Moan all you like but I can't see you getting anywhere. So they changed the spec - big deal, it happens all the time, you take your chances when you order that the spec won't change for the better or worse the following day.

Incidentally this full leather isn't free you know. The S-Line pack price has increased by £250 to £1800. Yes it's a good deal compared to ordering it separately before the spec change but it's not totally free. Also be aware that some models and options have increased in price, so your 2.0TDI now costs an extra £235 and if you have BOSE specced that that'd be an extra £85 too.

So if you ordered today you'd get full leather but you'd be paying at least £485 extra for it.

You can refuse the car due to the price increase. I did that. When we specced our car the week it was delivered to the dealer, Audi announced the Special Editions. We had paid seperately for S-line spec(£1000 over sport), Exterior S-line styling pack(£1500 extra) and upgrading the half leather to full leather(£750). The price difference between our car and the SE was around £1900 more. We tried talking to the dealer and Audi UK(who said it was now a dealer vehicle and they would have to sort it as they had paid for it from Audi UK). We couldnt pull out altogether or we would loose the deposit but we could cancel the car and reorder it, im pretty sure the dealer though we would just take it but I decided it would be better to reorder and add bluetooth and RNS-E for only a little more. They had to use the car as a demo vehicle after that just so they could recoup some of the money(profit) they had lost.

Your wrong actually, Alot of options have come down in price while others have gone up. All weighed up it works out the same as what mine cost.

Are you a dealer or salesman by any chance?

You also miss my point, its not merely about a small change in spec, i would have ordered the s line special edition had they done it in the tdi 170 spec. I am more concerned about resale value and ease at the end of my ownership then simply having full leather.

Also its the principle of the matter!

Thanks everyone else for your comments, i have rung and left a message for the sales guy to call me. will see what they say. if i don't get anywhere i will just reorder.

I'm not wrong, actually.

Here's the full list of changes which I posted back on 10th November:

<ul type="square">[*]SE now includes 17" 16-spoke wheels (which are now a no-cost option on the Sport)

[*]S-Line now costs £1800 rather than £1550 but includes full Vienna leather

[*]The S-Line Special Edition has gone

[*]The 2.0TFSI, 3.2 and 2.0TDI (both 140 & 170) have gone up in price by £235

[*]Wheel prices have changed quite a bit, most notably the the S-Line 18" RS6s are now only £700 on the SE (previously £1400) and £400 on the Sport (previously £1000)!

[*]BOSE has gone up £85

[*]CD-based navigation on the S3 has dropped from £1400 to £750

[*]New "Sun band for windscreen" option added at £55 across the range

[*]New "Black styling package" option added at £300 across the range

The only things which have "gone down", by which I mean reduced in price or improved in spec are 17" wheels on the SE which doesn't affect you and some reduced wheel option prices which don't affect you.

Assuming your sig is correct and you have an S-Line on order then which options have you specified which would cost less now? As far as I can see, you'd be paying an extra £250 for the S-Line pack with full leather and another £235 for the 2.0TDI engine at least.

Vertigo1 is spot on. I asked last week if Audi UK was doing any financial support to clear 06MY cars, and the answer was no, as the price increases covers some of the spec differences.

Sometimes if there is a major spec change. Audi UK will put some money behind each car (this was done when the 3 door swapped to the single frame grill), To help clear the old stock.

From the sounds of it the dealer was understanding in Dandle's case and accomodated the change. I can't see any legal basis for refusing the car because the prices and options have changed since you ordered it. Audi have a signed order for a given spec at a given price and, providing they supply what you ordered, you'll be legally obliged to hand over the agreed amount.

The only legal basis I can see for any possible complaint would be if you expressely asked the dealer if there were any forthcoming deals and the dealer said no when in reality they knew there were such deals or changes imminent. In this case you could argue the dealer deliberately misled you but in reality you'd have a hell of a job proving it unless you recorded all your conversations with them during the sales process.
