Strange problem

Got a 2002 S8. Pulled into fuel station to fill up at the credit card pump. Jumped out and went to use and saw a notice that pump was faulty. Cursing etc. jumped back into the car and tried to start to move to another pump and the engine fired, ran for a couple of seconds, then stopped. Tried it 4/5 times and it did the same thing. So sat for 15 seconds with it switched off. It then fired up ok with no problems since. Did I just confuse the management system, or what?

Its on the dash where the battery and oil pressure light is. Have you got your steering retract feature on? if so that doesn't help the wire gets snagged. All you have to do is clean up the wire and contact leading to the ignition barrel then put some more insulation on it by way heat shrink sleaving and your away 169144-ok.gif

Check this thread out from a while ago 169144-ok.gif

IIRC you have to remove the steering wheel to get access to the steering column screws . Not too difficult if I recall corectly just make sure you disconnect the battery before removing anything from the steering or you'll risk setting off the airbag. I'll dig out the work shop manual proceedure tonight if you want? 169144-ok.gif

Sorry to keep going on about the problem but as yet I haven't had opportunity to get the black lead sorted. What I have now noticed is that when I start the car from cold it fires, then momentarily dips in revs and then picks up straight away to tick over as per normal. Does not do it when warm....all is fine then. Could this be related, or part of the same problem?

Thanks for the info Ska. I am not familiar with the under bonnet area of the S8 so could you, or anyone else, advise as to how I get to said throttle body. and what is needed to be taken off to achieve a clean up. I have done it before on other vehicles but never ventured into the 'under engine cover' area of my S8. If there are any particular difficulties I may meet then to be prepared is helpful. Thanks.
