simon_golf_tt
On my new Mk5 R, the front windscreen seems to take minutes to clear if misted up, i.e. on a cold morning. This is with the front screen button pressed (the button above the rear heated screen button) and the fan turned up full. The fan certainly sounds like it's shifting a lot of air but there isn't a huge flow out of the dash top and the screen takes ages to clear (at least 5 minutes this morning, outside temp was 3.5degC). I'm wondering if I have a problem or if they are all like that? The same button on my A4 is way quicker to clear the screen in the same situation. Thanks in advance guys! TP27
I close off the side vants so that all the air is thrown upwards onto the inside of the windscreen, then as the car warms up and the windscreen clears I re-open the side vents to allow air to blast the side windows too. What amazes me is that you step into the car and all the windows are un-misted and as soon as you turn on the blowers they all mist up. Thermodynamics and condensing cold air, I'm sure I missed that lesson to explain this all to me !!!
hixster
I'm having the same problem too guys. When I get back to the car at the station on the evening the windscreen is taking ages to clear. Heaters full on.I only have a short journey back home and invariably the windscreen is only just clearing as I arrive back. Another frustrating issue with the mark V, don't remember this at all with my Mark IV.. I was thinking the moisture in the cabin had be caused by the s**t window sill designs letting in water if you open them with the roof wet. ie.. dripping in over the plastics and door switches. I'd thought about trying to dry the window off and trying to reduce the amount of moisture inside the cabin. Although maybe this is futile... RB32
So far I havent had this problem - just hit the demist button and it seems to be sorted by the time i leave the station car park. My MkIV was so bad, the condensation used to ice up INSIDE so I had to scrape out and in and then sit around for the mist to go... see how the winter pans out with the MkV! Cuprabob
I've noticed this as well. Was a bit suprised because on my Leon Cupra R the window cleared instantly.
Dann32
Iv not had any probs with my mkv in the 4 wks iv had it, my windows clear pretty quickly although i do think the fans are a bit too noisey for the amount of air you actually get coming out of the vents. simon_golf_tt
Not just me then. I also find that you get in and the screen is clear, start up and it mists up straight away. This is a new phenomenon to me! Could it be due to the fancy screen?? I'll try turning the dash vents off, but I thought the flow to them was blocked with the windscreen demist button on anyway? Hate to think what it will be like once the temp gets down below freezing!

Skidmark
I know it could be a problem on the Mkiv and I have no experience with the Mkv...... but could the pollen filter be getting wet, and acting like a damp sponge ?
billy2shots
I take it you guys have the windscreen vent open....
Dr_Watson
Have you tried it with the aircon on low...you might be surprised how fast it can clear it.
TwoSheds
At temperatures over 3 degrees C the air conditioning will be switched on automatically when you press the defrost button for the windscreen in order to dry the air....according to the handbook.
