KevF
Taken from Rebel-V8.com...we all need to safe guard our hobby/business/freetime http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/ The government’s proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working Mum who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month. On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit you can expect an NIP with your monthly bill. If you care about our freedoms and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/ ps Hotmail accounts are blocking emails from this petition site so suggest use another one if you have one
patently
I'm sorely tempted to sign, but (a) I don't believe they'll listen, and (b) if I'm worried that they'll track my car (which I am), how worried am I about giving my name, email address, and physical address to a government website while stating that I disagree with official policy? drpellypo
Kev, Firstly there's absolutely no chance of them using this for speeding fines, certainly as far as current UK law stands. You're looking at two years to pass any kind of bill to change that.

EssFour
This is the thing that winds me up about this country. The way the population just accept any crappy policy without opposing. We slag of the French but there is no way they would try and implement this in France. At least the public voice there concerns and makes their leaders think twice. We just accept it and thne turn our attention to Popstar or some other dumbing down piece of crap on TV. You are fogetting that the current incumbents, and future, are there to represent us. Not their creedy quangos. Sign the petition. It may not change things but it is better to have tried. I've signed up. Within time they will introduce a policy that allows them to issue speeding tickets depending from data sent by the little black boxes. Patiently: Sign up. They know your whereabouts/identity already so I would not worry about signing a petition. Anyway we live in a "democracy" don't we. Freedom of speech and all that........ Again: does anyone really believe this will make a difference? These people were willing to distort the evidence in order to launch a war. Monitoring drivers? No problem. sufu
The way I see it, it doesn't matter if they introduce a policy where every car must have a black-box fitted, i'll still not have one fitted. It's an invasion of privacy. If they make it law, I'm moving abroad. Someone really needs to create a "new" AA, one that actually does represent the motoring public, and more importantly has some balls
