S3Rob
Found a good video showing a grouptest between S3 and R32 being driven by Sabine. The laptimes at the end are pretty convincing as the S3 is almost 2 seconds faster on a 1 min lap with only a 14hp advantage over the R32. That suggests better handling to me. (ducks for cover). S3 v R32
billy2shots
RE: Better handling. Are you sure it has nothing to do with extra power and smaller (lighter engine). Im sure a Scoob or Evo woul murder both, so not too sure whay your point is.
sufu
a Scoob or Evo would murder a lot of high performance/higher priced cars... but they're not even in the same league, never mind class, of build quality and refinement as either the R32 or S3

fingermouse
love the interior of the new S3 but both the R32 and S3 lack the stance of the older R32 and S3. Feel like both have taken a step backwards in the styling department. where oh where are the arches ???????????????

Brisel
So not much quicker than the R32 then despite the reduced weight and more power. I don't speak German but the S3 did seem to understeer less IMO. I hope that Top Gear do a hot hatch shoot out in the new series. The TG circuit should show a bigger difference between the 2 cars with a half decent Stig at the wheel. I know which one sounds better

AZURES3
I know that an S3 with less than 200 miles on the clock can nail a 3.2 V6 TT in a drag race on a private road AZ

aliAUDI
i was just saying that hypothetically talking of course, I had a "tustle" with my "hypothetical mate" who was in his 6000 mile hypothetical 3.2 manual TT. In my hypothetical S3, it wiped the floor (200 miles on the clock). hypothetically talking, thats pretty good in my book!

Oli
Ha ha good banter. Both cars are very good, maybe the R32 is too heavy, maybe the S3 has too much turbo lag. Like someone has already pointed out, neither car is as muscular as the models that they replace. AT the end of the day both are good cars and both would be about as quick as each other in mere mortals hands!, and we all love each car for different reasons I prefer the styling and noise of the Golf, and in my opinion the S3's styling is quite bland, but nothing that a set of 'new' RS4's wouldn't sort out.
