craigyb
All new bluetooth preperations for A6/A8/Q7 will feature the standard hands free profile and also the addition of a SIM access Profile (SAP) and no charging cradle. Effectively the car becomes the mobile phone by grabbing your SIM info and locking out your mobile. An additional privacy handset can be ordered to make and receive calls in private and send and receive SMS messages. Without the handset you can only view SMS messages that are held on the SIM, how many phones do that? It seems easy, but expensive to swap to this system for existing users, but the only phones supporting SAP currently are Nokias and BenQ according to Audi. I was under the impression the P990i supported SAP as it was a symbian Series 3 phone (Symbian 9.1) can anyone confirm this? Craig

[/ QUOTE ] You see I like a charging cradle; my 45 minute commute each way is more than enough to keep my 6320i topped up. Do you think it would be possible to keep the cradle and effectively do SAP over the data connector instead of over Bluetooth? That way I'd get a full power transmitter, full integration of the phone functions with MMI, and my phone would be charged. I wish SMS messages could be read on the MMI display. craigyb
I dont think it is possible to do the SAP over the cradle as the cradle is not compatible with the module, only the privacy handset can connect to the new module. No reason you can't keep your charging cradle just not connected to the module, powered seperately would be ok. And you can read SMS messages on the MMI, just not write without the handset. Chris_B
Thanks for the info, very interesting. I can imagine trying to write an SMS with the MMI wheel being very annoying, not to mention slightly dangerous!
