Thats an excellent idea Jon, but how about a previous generation one (W107 or W129). Totally Southforktastic.

That's the one!

I used to go out with a girl who had a mint one (kept it in the garage for summer days, used a Cavalier the rest of the time), it was fabulous, absolute hewn from solid build quality, was nearly 20 years old and the doors shut like a bank vault. Lovely lovely car.

The newer one Jon mentions is a cracker though, probably a much nicer car, but the old one has more sheer class... cool.gif

Thought you hated this kind of two-car philosophy?

Well we're not talking about me, we're talking about her. It isn't something I'd do in my circumstances but hers are different,

She's a hotelier so doesn't go very far. Has the Cav as a runabout to the cash and carry and the Merc for trips and sunny days.

If she were using a car regularly her priorities might be different.

And you're a scary man. UHOH7.GIF

Scary for remembering what you had said, not to mention being able to find it?! tongue.gif

None of my work mates can get understand why I bike to work throughout winter rather than drive: I bought the 205 knowing I wouldn't have to crucify it with a pair of three-mile cold-engine stop-start rush-hour commutes six days a week.

I suppose it depends what/where you're doing it.

If you're just doing a 5 mile commute through heavy traffic then it'd make sense. But if you drive a fair bit during the week it doesn't make so much sense to have a lot of money tied up in a nice car whilst you pedal an old nail here there and everywhere...

It works against you either way, Ari.

If I only did short journeys, then I wouldn't want to use the 911 for them, for the reasons given. As it is, I do about 25k miles per annum total, so if I just used the 911 then it would now be a 75k car. That would impact it's value, but as I don't plan to sell it (ever!), I'm frankly not that bothered. What would annoy me would be the associated dings, stone chips, wear and tear to the interior, and so on. The car is precious and I don't want to waste it.

But then you have times when the BMW is in the bodyshop for a week so you use the 911 for everything. Then the garage calls to tell you cheerfully that the car is ready to collect, and your face falls because you will have to stop using the 911. Then you really think ... with a 911 in the garage, why do I drive anything else?

Then, a week later, you notice another stone chip.
