sms720
Hi, Does anyone know how I can unlock my new Nokia N73 (on Orange) so that I can use a Vodafone SIM? Thanks Simon
Rustynuts
Not possible at the moment. Only your network provider can give you an unlock code for the N series Nokia, and they'll charge you for this.
danksy
I thought the same as rusty, but theres a guy on ebay selling unlock codes. Might be worth a look, he has 100% FB
Rustynuts
He says they have a 65% success rate with Nokia N series phones. I bet it doesn't work with the phone you try it on, and you'll just presume that you're one of the unlucky ones. I think it's just someone selling the freely available unlocking software, and trying to make a few quid off the N series phone owners aswell. Remember, if your phone fails to unlock with his software, it'll need a new one or be sent back to Orange (or whoever) to reflash it and reinstate their coding to make it work. If it fails to unlock, it becomes virtually useless. If none of the unlocking sites in this country can unlock them, why is he selling his software on ebay when he could be making a fortune selling the program to them? Booster
I used to buy and sell mobiles until a couple of years ago. Not been offered any for ages so bit out of touch with the market. Got offered a load of N73s on Voda for what I thought was a silly price. Got straight on the phone to some of my old contacts only to be told to forget it as they are virtually worthless as they can't be unlocked. This info came from a bloke that manages all of Orange's 14 day returns for the UK.
Rustynuts
You don't have any available do you, on Vodafone? Or did you not take any.
Booster
Could have had 50 for £50 a box but there was no profit in it so I said no to the lot
sms720
Well I got the phone unlocked but had to pay Orange £20 - daylight robbery!
Booster
Did they give you a code to enter or send a SMS to the phone?
Rustynuts
Sounds about right. They sudsidise the cost of the phone with the line rental, so if you're going to use their cheap phone on another network, then they want some money back. Only fair really, and £20 is about the going rate. If you take a phone to a high street unlocking shop they'll charge probably a tenner (when they can do the N73) but they don't have the financial outlay in the phone that Orange do.
