compbuild
Hi I’ve got a 2002 Golf TDI (ADT I Think). The problem is the cold start has gotten pretty poor it starts fine but there is a bit of smoke and the engine revs like the accelerator is being pumped a bit, much like the effect a an old choke would have had then when I move off it is pretty juttery for several hundred metres. I think the MAF sensor has gone as well as the car has started to die on the motorway and do a top speed of just over 80 at about 2200 rpm. Are these problems related or any advice on how I can sort it? Is the MAF sensor a DIY Job I’m quite a novice at car maintenance but have changed Oil, filters, belt etc before. Any help much appreciated
compbuild
Anyone? even just advice on how to replace the MAF sensor Thanks
benjie
Take the maf sensor off, if the car runs ok, then the sensor is bust. It's an easy procedure I think, buut having never done it I'm not 100% sure!
sidlad
Hi don't know much about the technical stuff myself...but if you look back at the treads about LIMP mode and such like there is loads of info about MAF sensors and their replacement. compbuild
Update in case anyone has the same trouble, Got the car on a diganostic tester (VAGCOM?) and it said the MAF sensor needs replaced, disconnected the MAF and the car is running better but still very flat, it was also giving and overboost error, any idea what that might indicate? Rustynuts
Replace the maf first, then see what else you get faulty. The maf could be causing your overboost fault due to not reading the airflow volume correctly.
