Trefor
I thought the suspension of our 400 mile old Golf GTI felt a bit firm. Being the naturally suspicious type I had a shufty in the wheel arches. Look what I found (attached)
SamD
That is terrible and surely dangerous!
MOSE
THat is absolutely appalling and utter negligence from the dealer. If it were mine, I would be demanding a new car and if they refused I would send all the major car press a copy of that photograph to prove a point. Tarmac_Terrorist
Unacceptable! Was anything on the PDI actually done or did they just sign the paperwork? That's got to be worth a free service in compensation.
danksy
I would demand some compensation What else did they miss on the PDI
Trefor
I sat there for a few minutes looking and thinking "nah, they can't have". Good to see VW dealers on par with Audi dealers. Our car had an extra 2 weeks waiting for us to collect it at the dealers for a proper PDI. Instead we got a bird poo damaged bonnet (polished it out myself) and this.
MOSE
Demand a new un mate and GO PUBLIC!!! Just my view of course!! Been down this route before with BMW, but NEVER again!
TwoSheds
Has happened on quite a few occasions in as much as people have been adding it to listings, on forums, as something to check when picking up the car apart from the usual things. Or noticing problems with ride comfort later. It would be better if they were made in bright colour so they stood out more. Still no excuse for leaving them in at PDI. nutkins
Isn't this quite common? Evo magazines test car had them left in and they didn't find out until the first service. I'm sure I've read about it a few times.
Maxyboy
i can see its something that stops the spring from compressing but what actually is it?

MOSE
SO it isnt just a cheap gizmo to make the suspension on the GTi feel a bit more sporty??

rs32
definitely name and shame, but after they have compensated - the service manager should be adding "polishing Mr Trefor's shoes twice daily" to the PDI sheet. and they make such a fuss about delaying collection because of the PDI
shao_khan
In answer to your question - no, dont shoot them, if you do then 2 more will appear.
Trefor
They called me first thing and are collecting the car at 3pm to sort it out. Name and shame, no, but if you happen to look at my profile and see where I live you may guess where we bought from.

[/ QUOTE ] Yes, There to stop the car bouncing about on the ferry but more important on the car transporters. Watch cars on the back of recovery trucks to see how much they move without them. These help reduce that a great amount. They can also sometimes make the car higher too to help loading and unloading from transporters etc. These been left in is VERY common on many makes. Its shoddy PDIs quite often happens at peak times of the year at reg change when dealers are very busy. You would probably be amazed how often this happens. RedRobin
I'm glad I didn't find such thingys still hugging my springs when we changed the whole suspension! However, on a very similar subject - When AP Racing changed my OEM front brakes to their BB kit, we discovered that the standard brake pipe tube nuts (to the chassis bracket) were only finger tight!!!! On both front corners! I got my VW dealer to take off my rear wheels just to check those corners. No looseness there and they didn't charge me anything for the check.
