Pincher
Got a Dreamweaver template (dwt) and I am trying to put in a de-layered photoshop (psd) file but if I go to Insert | Image it doesn't work. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?
Mollox
Yep you need to have it in an acceptable format for both Dreamweaver and ultimately web display. PSD the standard photoshop file and contains all sort of layer and font information etc - its only read by photoshop and some key Adobe products. Depending on the type of image it is and its colour composition you'll be wanting to save it as a jpeg, a gif or a png ideally. Rough guide - if its a photo or has a lot more than 256 different coloured pixels in it then jpeg, if it has a few colours with lots of solid areas and few fades then gif. Png is good for transparent images etc. In photoshop you want to be using the "save for web" function on your image and selecting your output settings accordingly. You can change the output file type along with a host of settings in this function and it shows you your original image vs a preview of how the settings will look enabling you to preserve quality and still get your filesize down
Mollox
Give me a call if you still need help. Well, you obviously need help but you know what I mean
Pincher
Cheers I have saved the unlayered PSD file as a PNG as it seems to look ok in DW. Photochop is hard isn't it? I think I'll stick to FIX Protocol in future

Png is becoming increasingly popular but I still use it the least and for very specific image types
Mollox
It just takes a little time for you you to start thinking the way it needs you to think - i.e. layers and selection areas instead of just drawing and then it suddenly becomes the most incredible application ever. There's so many things it can do, so many ways of combining features to achieve more stuff. Its awesome
Ritey
Why's that Mollox? I've just started using it, never really did before but it does better transparancey than gif's IMO.
Mollox
File size mainly. I like PNGs too but only for transparency purposes. If transparency isn't an issue and its not a photo and has lots of solid colour blocks then gifs are pretty efficient
Ritey
Ah right, that's fair enough
