DHA
Been looking around at tyres for a while now and have considered some road legal semi slick tyres. My main concern is how they will behave in the wet. Will they have no grip or if you are careful will they be ok? Toyo do these: R888 is the tyre but will they throw me into a hedge at the first oppurtunity when it rains?
Mollox
Most probably, yes. What on earth do you want those for anyway? If you're pushing beyond the limits of a decent performance tyre on the road during normal driving then you need help, not semi slicks!
DHA
I want something that is grippy in the dry. Was looking at the Evo (car not magazine) forums and they came as a good tyre on there. But they did comment as if they were using them for track runs and the driving back home. Mollox
I'd say go for a particularly soft road tyre - Yokohama AVS tend to be very soft - before going to a semi-slick which I think is designed for track use and probably too compromised for UK roads
DHA
I loved the AVS I used to have on the Boxster (silver one) so am looking at them. Problem is not many places stock Yokos anymore.
SamD
Quite a few CSL drivers run Semi-Slicks, might be worth asking one or 2 of them how they behave in various conditions. I am with Mollox though, in that a decent performance road tyre would probably be a better choice

[/ QUOTE ] Would you??? - with good intentions, you will be careful, but it would only take one little throttle blip and.............'hello tree!' RedRobin
Hi DHA, I'm with Mollox/cruiser/Sam on this too. You're thinking of putting them on a Mk5 GTI aren't you? Front wheel drive and plenty of power available - Even the standard car can spin those wheels in greasy or wet road conditions. I'd be looking to increase grip and not reduce it. ESP will look after you pretty well (I've discovered on more than one occasion!) but there are limits. Check out the CarLimits course - Thread and link in the GTI forum. Ritey
Dave, Goodyear tyres are fairly soft too in my experience
RedRobin
Eagle F1s have an excellent reputation.
Omi
+1 for Goodyear F1s... Excellent grippy tyre, communicative when they're on the edge or their grip and still seem to last well. I used to run Eagle Venturas which I found just as grippy, longer lasting and unbelieveably good in the wet, don't think you can get them anymore though.
