johnlondonw3
Hi,just bought a 2nd hand A4 Avant, and the interior stinks. I was thinking I should shampoo the whole of the interior with some stuff that is used for furniture upholstery. If this is correct whats the best way to do it,for example mix it up and spray it on and then use towels to dry it off ? Or should I hire one of those machines for cleaning upholstery, which seem to suck up the dirt after its been washed ? Got to get it done quick as its driving me nuts.... before you ask I had cold when I bought it and didnt notice it until yesterday !!!!!! McGee
Get some APC and a wet and dry vacum. Spray the APC liberally over all the cloth surfaces leave for a few minutes then vacum off. Leave the engine running and turn up the heat to dry it out. Clean and Shiny sell APC for just over a tenner plus you need a spray bottle and a foaming head. £15 should get you what you need, APC comes in 5 litres and dilutes down so you will end up with around 20 so good value. Use it on wheels and arcehs as well.
johnlondonw3
Thanks for that I'll give it a try, whats APC ? is that a brand name of a product ?
McGee
Meguiars All Purpose Cleaner. Leave it for a while and agitate with a brush if particularly dirty or stained then use the wet and dry vacum.
johnlondonw3
thanks I'll give it a try However it maybe that the smell is from the air con. Ive just read a post on hear ,in another section suggesting its caused by bacteria in the heating/air con system. suggestion there is to put heater on full blast for about 3 mins and then on full cold for same time to see if it kills them
McGee
You can buy air con cleaning kits on line or halfrauds for about a tenner. Put the air con on recirculate open packet, bit like a smoke bomb and leave in car for a specified time. Kills all the bugs and work really well. steelwind101
Hi you dont have your car in your sig. how old is it?? Anything coming from the a/c that doesnt smell right i would be worried about. Bacteria or otherwise, all sorts of bugs and things can be in there. If your in a position to have a dealer check it under warrenty i would do that. Geoff
johnlondonw3
Its a 2003 model ,so its out of warranty..I bought some Comma air con cleaner and tried it yesterday, but it doesnt seemed to have worked. I now wonder if its something else,,,,,,,,,,Ive noticed that no water is coming out of the rear window washer, maybe theres a pipe loose or blocked and this is causing the smell,,,,,,anyone know how to check if the pipe is disconected blocked ? johnlondonw3
went out to the car this morning to get a couple of cds Id left in it ...........and ........still bloody smelling !!!,maybe it needs a couple of days and a long drive with the windows open to clear out the smell. Its p***ing me of no end........ I'll get some of that APC stuff and try doing the upholstry,I dont have a wet and dry vac so I'll have to wait until the local hire shop is open to hire one,.......or I wonder do those big BP petrol stations have them on their forcourt for when people want to vacume the interior of the car ? chazzy
have you fixed the rear washer yet? 4 torx screws at base of interior trim (2 inside where warning triangle is) and then REALLY PULL the trim away from the metal, it will give EVENTUALLY with a big BANG, its held in place by sprung clips. if you've got long fingers or slim hands you can push the pipe back on. I did this this afternoon. make sure the washer jet is clear first the crud that gets flung up there in wet weather blocks the outlet and the next was wipe you do pops the tube off. have you taken the rear seat base off and cleaned under that? couold be all sorts of leftovers hidden there. Would recommend the wet and dry vac, especially if it was a smoker. you can even clean the headlining with a VAX. praying for a dry day Chas

[/ QUOTE ] Yea I know that neutrodol stuff,we had a rat die under the house a couple of months ago, christ what a Fxxxing smell,so we bought some of the natural smell neutrodol, which went some way to masking the stink of the rat..trouble is I cant smell the neutrodol without associating it with the stink off the rat ...but I did spray the spare wheel well with it and I'll try it on the interior over the weekend.......where can I get a dehumidifier ?
