Booster
My mate has just got himself a 1991 Hilux Surf as a workhorse. Very good condition for £1800! It has loads of buttons that we can't work out as all the labels are in Japanese! There is one red button next to the gearlever that has a big red exclamation mark and loads of symbols next to it. I really wanted to press it Also another one that says ECT Anyone got any ideas?

Will pull a house down Ect holds the gears, dont ask me what it stands for but say yr overtaking something, push the ect button and it will hold the gear for longer(ie more revs) before changing up. Good for getting up hills! Its a bit like a sport mode. The red button on the gear stick does nothing more than allow you to move the gearstick when the engine is off, without engaging the gears i.e to get the stereo out. The gearstick will not move when engine off without pressing this button. Also for info the o/d button drops the gears a ratio, so it wont go into to top gear. Mainly used for towing. Hope this helps Steffi

Chris_B
Ah, beaten to it by Steffi! Here was Mick's answer anyway, the same as Steffi says: [ QUOTE ] Chris, the red button by the gear selector, if pressed allows the gear lever to be moved whilst the vehicle is stationary. the ACT button is used when the vehicle is used for towing, this basically holds every gear that little bit longer when it ts depressed the word Power will light up on the Dashboard. It was a £70k spectrum analyser (in around 1984!!!). Guy was like 'I dont want to play with it, it costs too much'. I was like 'Hmm what can go wrong it's just a bunch of buttons' and promptly pressed a load all at once. Anyways the heavens open, the devices instantly packs up and had to be returned to HP for repair. So every time I hear 'What can go wrong' I laught plenty can go wrong...
