randellp
As part of my "getting it out of my system before I'm married" activities over the coming year, I agreed over a few Chimay blue labels this weekend to go on a road trip to Krakow with my oldest best mate. We agreed a budget for car at 1K but it has to be a car which epitomises the raffish excesses of youth, so preferably it will have no less than 8 cylinders and/or 3 litres. The shortlist after a quick look through autotrader/ebay has come up with: Jag XJ/S, Range Rover Vogue SE, MB SEC/CE, BMW 5/735, Jeep Cherokee 4.0l and so on. There will be an ongoing search for the perfect vehicle for the next few months so I'll keep you posted! Now, there's a fair chance the chosen car never makes it all the way, let alone back again and however much I would dearly love to leave a V12 XJS parked on a roundabout outside Krakow airport as a "permanent" reminder of my visit, I should really try and dispose of it more responsibly if I can. Are there more legitimate ways of disposing of a car in Poland (or any part of Germany/Belgium/France for that matter)? For instance, could I just take it to a local car dealer or scrappy for a handful of euros? And then what do you tell the DVLA after you fly back on Easyjet so they don't chase you for tax & MOT? Any advice will be truly welcomed....
Atomic
I guess it's the equivalent of an export. Don't see how they can enforce UK law if it's sold/disposed of abroad.

randellp
Yep - I like that one Cruiser but I'm not too keen on having to hitch back from the mountains afterwards - all part of the adventure tho so I'll look into it! It looks like the DVLA have a proper procedure for exporting cars abroad - returning the appropriate V5 sections in plenty of advanced notice of the trip etc. But what if it never makes it to Poland - and we get stuck in the Netherlands? It's tempting just to leave it in a supermarket car park near the city and "forgetting" you left it there. I'm sure it (or bits of it) would soon find a good home...
