Muppet
My A4's been experiencing strange "fluttering" at around 1500 rpm, and hesitation/snatching of gears on take off just recently so I've had Audi look at it today whilst doing its 3rd service ( at 56k miles ). Apparently its a known fault with the Multitronic box and they are replacing/upgrading the clutch to a 7 plate mechanism from a 6 plate mechanism. Anyone know anything about this mod ? does it affect the drive in anyway ? is the fix likely to last or is this just a patch up job ? Thanks in advance for any help ! robpink
important to stick to the (now) recommended 40000 mile autobox fluid change with Multi, despite Audi originally saying it was 'sealed for life'
Mitchet
Interesting... I have an 04 A4 multitronic too, and so far it seems well behaved (just having 3rd AVS at 68k now). But the warranty runs out in June 07, and I heard lots of bad stories about failing multitronic gearboxes. If you can get any more info on this from your dealer, I'd be most grateful... Chav
My CVT box handled perfectly until the car was traded in. It had done 56000+ miles I think. No fluid change was done at 40K miles and there were never any problems with it.
Muppet
well, I've had the clutch plate uprated now and the car drives smoother than ever. Apparently they had to strip the box down in order to upgrade the clutch plates. I was also told that if I had not had the 40k Gearbox fluid change (which I did) then Audi would not have covered the cost (although I would have contested that given that I've only 56k on the clock). Talking to the techy guy they seem to get quite a few of these, there are some tech docs about it as he knew all the symptoms even before I took him on a test drive. I'm told that I should have the Gearbox fluid changed at 80k as well, but I dont think ill still have the car by then !
