Wobby
Ok, i know this is a car section, but we dont have a van section I am looking at getting on of these for work and personal use, what do you people think to them? Anyone with calculated MPG figures? Is the engine reasonably powered? What do they drive like? I need this size to fit an IBC and tools generator etc in the back. Any thoughts appreciated, good or bad
Ian_C
The old 1999- 2.0 HDi 110 bhp, or the newer (circa 2005-) 1.6 HDi 110? Dad still has his HDi 90 Xantia, and he is still getting 50 mpg every tank. Along with other upgrades, the intercooler fitted to the 110 gives you the extra punch. Not driven the 110 myself, but have always got the impression that the gain appears better on paper than it is in real life. This is not helped by the fact that the early 110s seem to have a real flat spot around 1800 rpm. 188 lb ft is handy though. Even the basic HDi 90 pulls from idle. The the aerodynamics of a brick, I've got no idea what economy a Dispatch will get. Ian
Wobby
Its a new one, 2006 with 2.0 HDI. The 1.6 isnt an option. Torque is 250nM, changing to it from a 130bhp Passat
Ian_C
Well the 2.0 HDi 110 is 188 lb ft from memory. Anyone able to check if this is 250 Nm? Even when empty in terms of load bay and fuel tank, that is going to feel slower than the 228 lb ft Passat. For a workhorse though it will be excellent. Remember you can still buy a Berlingo with the 1993 vintage 1.9 diesel - ie non-turbo! Ian
Wobby
Correct Ian, just checked the web site its 184 lb/ft or 250Nm. Berlingo's not big enough for some occasional work, at present i use a trailer with the Passat. This becomes awkward when working away as the trailer is easily stolen or parts on it could be stolen. Weight wise its slightly lighter than the Passat but i am sure it will be much slower, it is quite boxy! The Passat should be staying. A person left my employment a month ago and he used his own estate car for work. New employee (part time to start with) doesn't have transport at present. So he will use it when needed and i will use it the rest of the time until he moves to full time. So i want something i am going to feel happy with otherwise i will just end up in the Passat. Ian_C
[ QUOTE ] Berlingo's not big enough for some occasional work. [/ QUOTE ] My point was that your HDI will feel like a Porsche compared with a 1.9 diesel! Ian
