stevepil
Hi All New to this and Audi, I am currently buying a 2001 Audi A3, 29k on the clock and excellent condition, 6888 - does that sound good deal? My question is the cam belt has not been changed and I am now worried thta it should have been done as the car is nearly 6 years old, can anyone please confirm/verify as last thing I want is to buy new car and the belt go straight away Does anyone also know costs for this and the average cost ofr a service with Audi Thanks all Steve
danksy
Welcome Steve Firstly, is the car a petrol or diesel? What size engine?
Chrisg
Welcome. you need to tell us where you are for the best help. I had a cam belt done at The Auto Pool in Iver, on an A4 and the bill was about £420 ( dealer quoted about £600) but this did include about £80 extra as the tensioner was an old type and the latest style need another part replaced as well . danksy
Assuming its a 1.8T i would say you should average about 34-38mpg depending how its driven
stevepil
cool, thanks, do you think the above cost is good for belt and pump, thanks
stevepil
something to add to this, got car today. really immaculate condition and love it, does anyone know of any weakness or anything to look out for on the a3 1.8 se, not turbo, i know most cars have them, i am hoping to have some luck with this car,all my previous cars have cost me min 600 every year on repairs anyone with any advice or anything be great thanks steve ps) did also notice today when driving at 70 my revs were at 4000, does that sound normal for this car, my old car would sit at just over 3000 so was a little concerned, engine etc sounded fine
stevepil
hi again, I have another question, sorry but new to audi, my car service was done in Feb and has only done 3k since the service, but I have pressed the service button on my A3 and it says next service due in 500 miles, cant quite understand this, not sure if it just starts at 500 miles as it has not gone down since I checked and I have done a couple of miles, if anyone can helpit be great please!!!! I have just done cam belt, dont really want to do a service this month too Steve
ahaydock
Does seem strange. Waht sort of driving do you do (motorway, town etc). I guess by the low miles it is probably town?
stevepil
can anyone help with any of the above, thanks ps) I mainly do town driving, I think have worked out the service indicator, it is based on variable ie the previous owners mileage etc, my concern is the mpg, most people say I should get 30, I have driven it since Thurs with a full tank and topped up today due to xmas etc and it took 15 ltrs and ive only done 70 miles so this works out at 22mpg, pretty poor I think.... not sure if its hard to asses this way as not sure if the first part of tank is worst, example the mpg would have improved through the rest of the tank if ran to empty, any help would be great have good xmas
stevepil
anyone with any assistance? I am still worried re the revs especially as I keep hearing people say, Clutch, speedo out, the car is in immaculate condision, just want to know if anyone has experienced this with an A3 1.8, the manual states Torque 3500-4500 if that makes any difference???
