v6tas
The reason im canvasing for opinion is that i have a dilema. Cant trust my local stealer any more after finally ending my joyriding dispute (i got a years free warranty out of them ) but my next stealer is over a 30 mile round trip which will include a £10 Humber bridge fee, courtesy car payment and the obvious petrol and time involved. I have a good local garage that is at the bottom of my street but i would lose the FSH if i use them? Only 7k to go to the 40k service and suspect that will clock up before next xmas. Any opinions chaps?
rs32
I may get shot down for this but the .:R has only been to dealers for a 1k oil change and fixing rattles/xenon adjustment. Current mileage just shy of 18k. All the stanps will be from an independent specialist, intending on keeping the car for 4+ years. Oil is changed every 5k miles, service schedule brought slightly forward and the extra spend is easily allowed for by the reduced labour rate. Can't see it knocking 000's off the sale price in 4 years time. There again if it behaves then it may well stay full stop - absoulutely love the car
GTiMK5
[ QUOTE ] I have a good local garage that is at the bottom of my street but i would lose the FSH if i use them? [/ QUOTE ] As long as you get it serviced when due you won't loose the FSH if they stamp the book, you will only loose the VWFSH. I have no problems using an specialist, I dont think it makes too much difference come trade in but you save a lot of money on the services and sepcialists will do a far better job than most main dealers IMO. I have been asked if the cars had a FSH on the last 3 I have traded in but the dealer has not once looked at the service record, just taken my word for it. When I traded the GTI, the dealer didnt even look at the car once, probably why I ended up with a bad R, they couldnt wait to get rid of it. v6tas
It was the VWFSH i actually meant, just a typo !!. Hopefully it wont make too much diff as i just cant take the car back to my local stealer despite winning my earlier case. I just dont trust them anymore
bowie
I know we have block exemption now, so the theory should be any garage can service your car and VW will honour the warranty as long as genuine parts are used and the manufacturers schedule followed. Thing is, in the event of a claim, imagine the hassle you'd have trying to prove that the schedule was followed. I would say dealers would be a bit more stubborn than usual. Chris. Ian_G
I discussed this in detail with my stealer. The people who service your car must be a limited company and they must be able to provide proof that they used genuine VW parts. Given the above no stealer would dare dispute that servicing has been less than impeccable.
bowie
How many independents do you know who keep extensive records of every car they service though ? Anyone know what kind of rates the tuners charge for servicing ? (AMD, etc) Chris.
