rs32
Currently trying to find a sub-60k mile Clio 172, preferably the Cup version. The standard Sport version would also be fine as cost is an issue, but should I be ignoring adverts like this one ? Fantastic price but almost suspiciously low and a dodgy-looking phone number. Anyone know of a Clio 172 Cup for sale at a bargain price? Would even consider something with very minor accident damage (e.g. paintwork only), as long as the major mechanicals are in top condition. cheers
Ian_C
The Cup model would be my choice. Would not personally miss ABS or aircon as I don't have them in my GTi. Tidy 2002 facelift examples with FASH can be had from 5k. Cups don't seem to make any more or less than 'stock' 172s. That advert does look very dodgy indeed. 090 number certainly to be avoided. rs32
thanks for the reply Ian [ QUOTE ] Tidy 2002 facelift examples with FASH can be had from 5k [/ QUOTE ] I must be looking in the wrong place as I've only found them from 6.5k - any pointers ? Ian_C
Auto Trader. Sub 60k mileages, 5k upwards prices, all models, national search. My work postcode before anyone highlights. There is a 2002 Cup on the second page advertised as 24k FSH. However, it also says ABS which is a lie as mentioned above. Ian
rs32
hmm, I've had no such joy on AT thus far - will try again now. Am aware of the differences beteen the full-fat and Cup varieties - as I understand it the Cup also has a slightly wider track which makes it impossible to retro-fit the Cup suspension to a normal model..... Will hold out for the right Cup to come along... and then watch out track here I come cheers
Ian_C
Cracking machines. Without wishing to sound like a broken record, if anything ever happened to my 205, a Cup would be the logical replacement. Edit. Cup suspension is 3mm lower, plus as you mention a 20mm increased front and 10mm increased rear track. Ian
SamD
There is one in Practical Performance Car this month. It's downstairs at the moment, but I will post the details up later
rs32
thanks Sam This is the wierdest set of search results I've ever had for a second-hand car. At present the trade sales are coming in around 1k [/i]cheaper[/i] than the supposedly private ones, WTF Perhaps the dealers are struggling to shift them, and private buyers are struggling to accept they've taken a value hit ? Calm Chris
Go over to pistonheads PH classified linky , they have 152 clios in the classifieds and tomorrow I'll be looking at this one:-
rs32
thanks Chris - there is one up at just under 5.5k that could be tempting. still seeing loads of examples where private sellers are holding out for 7k but traders have droppped to 6k or less, seems very odd

I have a wealth of history to pass on and have every single receipt for everything purchased for the car, every tax disc and even the original bill of sale etc. It's a 2005 car for crying out loud! If the guy wants to know what a 'wealth of history' looks like, he should pop round for a coffee or ten to read through the THREE FOLDERS that came with my 1993 Pug! Every mot, tax disc, endless invoices and service sheets - even a three-page Microsoft Excel file created to catalogue everything. Heaven! Anyway, I digress - good luck finding mint Clios boys. rs32
well that was a big disappointment. all in pretty poor condition (interior marked in just about every place possible), didn't sound right when it started and every wheel had been completely kerbed. Also the dealer wasn't even interested in speaking to me about the car, he got his pikey mate to give me the keys loved the feel of the car just from sitting in it though so the search will continue.... the 90-mile blast around Sussex and Kent B Roads has more than made up for the poor quality 172 though - the R32 just loves these winter conditions
SamD
Sorry to hear that Rich, the search continues I suspect like most bargain performance cars, a lot will have been trashed, but there are bound to be a few out there with caring owners
