a2nut
Hi all, Does anyone know or got an info why I get a petrol smell in the cabin of my audi A2 1.6fsi sport ? It only happens in a morning when starting from cold, once warmed up it goes away. I have have had the bonnet off and there is no obvious leaks any where. I am baffled. Audi want £160 +vat for a diagnostic check and 1hr labour which I ain't got at the mo as is crimbo. Any help would be appreciated. Ade
PetrolDave
Since it only happens at the morning when starting from cold one possible explanation is this - when starting from really cold the engine is overfuelled (i.e. lots of extra petrol) so some unburnt petrol gets blown out the exhaust, if the exhaust fumes get blown into the car (open door, poor seals on the tailgate, etc.) that could explain it. Alternatively it could be a fuel line connection not being fully tight when very cold.
allroadman
under the rear bumper there is normally 2 vents , they are made of plastic and can easyly fall out, it could be those causing the fumes to get inside the car.

totalnuts
My wife experienced an unbearable smell of fuel (diesel) on her A2. The car was returned to Audi on several occasions and then we where told it was a fault with the fuel pipes which would have to be replaced. This went on for months, we part ex'd the A2 in the end for an A4 which has several radio replacements and the engine management light would illuminate now & again, this was then replaced with the RS4 which had warped discs and soft wheels, managed to get these FOC were it was purchased from (300mls away)but had to travel to Worchester and stay in a hotel as the place was packed with unhappy customers as the local dealer would not touch it but very happily put 35mls on the clock when I left it with them !! The RS4 was handed back in the end due to turbo problems and I eventually got my refund. No more Audis thanks very much. BTW whats wrong with repairing parts now, it seems that if there is a problem it needs a new part. Audi technicians my arse more like part fitters.
