PANACEA
OK, after driving back from Yorkshire last night, I have decided to take the plunge and get an HID upgrade for my A4 as the standard lights, even with Silver Star bulbs just dont provide enough light in my opinion for safety. So, after reading all the posts, it seems either HIDS4U or VAGPARTS is the way to go, so just wondered who has used what and if anyone can recommend one over the other. Thanks, and Happy Christmas. shark_90
I have the VAGParts kit and it's pretty good. Very white light, much better than standard, but not as bright as OEM in my opinion. Still a worthwhile upgrade
JimLoskot
how possible is OEM retrofit, is it just too much ££££ to be worthwhile? is it new clusters etc as well? or is it not really that much difference between oem and vagparts kit
adwhitworth
OEM retrofit is possible but you'd be looking at spending a lot more cash than an aftermarket. To go OEM, you would need new clusters, the xenon levelling things which are now available from Kufatec, headlight wash system which means new bumpers so serious cost. JimLoskot
do you know a rough price for just the headlamp parts? not intrested in the bumper + headlight washer system
Chrisg
Jim I think it's 'if you have to ask you cannot afford' ! Seriously big money buying new from Audi, if you want the full OE parts. been looking into this , generally, for her B5. Think I'll go for a kit.............. What is this Kufatec stuff for levelling ?
Mitchet
The bits from Kuftec are sensors that are mounted to the suspension (all 4 corners) which send information to the Xenon control unit about the cars inclination. The control unit will then adjust the headlamp aim to avoid the beam being too high (i.e. if you are going over a small bridge, it'll dip the beam down to keep it level and not blind oncoming drivers). If you just fit a HID kit, you don't have this feature. In my opinion though, I've never had issues with blinding other drivers. If absolutely necessary, I'll use the manual adjustment switch. I think HID kits are a great idea if you have the projector style headlamps (as they have a more defined beam cutoff and don't blind oncoming traffic). But I've recently seen so many people with normal headlamp units who have fitted HIDs and not only do they look awful, but they do blind oncoming traffic. corroda
What do you mean by 'projector style' headlights. I have a 2004 A4 1.9 TDI Sport, will it have these lights fitted as standard. Must say having driven some local roads in the dark recently that I'm keen to fit a HID conversion, so hopefully this thread will come up with a clear winner. Biscuits
I've bought a kit from ACEParts. Got the details from the guys over on the Pistonheads forum. £125 for the kit, very nice If you email Alan at ACEparts and mention Pistonheads or PM me for his details. I believe he makes a lot of the kits for the aftermarket suppliers (hence the price!) I'm hoping to get the kit installed today, if I can get out my dressing gown ! livefortoday
i was going to do the HID upgrade from Vagparts but was warned that it could trip the bulb failure on the DIS all the time when i spoke to Martin at Vagparts he confirmed that the HID upgrade they sell would proberly trip the Bulb failure. so i have never bothered with them i wish this wasnt the case as the look so much better than just a bulb upgrade has anyone ever done a HID upgrade and found the bulb failure on the DIS to work OK. shark_90
Martyn may have some new kits in.. I don't have DIS so there's nothing to trip in my car.. but if I remember rightly, he suggested the kit may trip the bulb warning when striking, but should be OK after that. Great in the B6 ( factory fit) to watch them level when it starts up in the dark

[/ QUOTE ] It's partly correct - there's only 2 sensors, one on the front suspension and one on the rear suspension. I've seen the headlamp beam adjust as I've loaded a heavy weight into my Avant, so I think there's some dynamic adjustment but not sure how much.
