jediknight83
Am interested in getting an M3 soon and LOVE the look of the CSL but would like the comfort of the M3 So how easy / expensive would it be to get the wheels / bumper / boot lid from a CSL and put them on an M3? Obviously would also need the exhaust surround and black trim but that could come later. In my mind its those first 3 things that make the big difference. Cheers Nathan
Wallachie
It would be ridiculously expensive to do it using OEM parts. Front bumper alone retails at £2900. Another hurdle is the fact you need the chassis number from a CSL to order parts through BMW, this is purely to prevent people from copying the CSL looks. Why don't you just buy a Silver Grey M3 CS? There's a member over at www.bm3w.co.uk who had a Carbon Black M3 which was a CSL replica. Cost him an absolute fortune I believe.
jediknight83
hmm ok thanks firstly id be after a black one. the CS just has the wheels (and not the leightweight ones at that) but not the bumpers does it. Thing is im looking at near £30k for a CSL which is too much for me at the moment but £20-£25k for an M3 shame... loved the CSL looks. maybe in a few years
Wallachie
I was tempted to buy a normal M3 to save a few ££££, but I knew that I would still yearn for a CSL so decided just to do it properly. M3 CS would be a good compromise though, but if your budget is only £20-£25k you are at least £10k shy.
allen
totally agree with you, about having csl looks but with the comfort. am i being stupid but can you buy a csl and change front seats to m3 ones
gizze
Got to say I find the CSL seats far more comfy than the standard M3 seats, and have to admit the first thing I thought I was going to do is change them for some recaros or similar. [/ QUOTE ] Its odd. I hated them too at first, and in fact was put off the car about a year and a half ago becasue of them. However once you have got used to them they really are great seats. Supposedly terrible for your poststure, showed my Doc, but look the part and hold you well!

Woppum
Yup understood. Never bothered me though. Its a secret compliment to those of us with the real thing!
jediknight83
its not so much i want a CSL. i just want an m3 with some of the styling found on the csl. Reason for not wanting an ACTUAL csl (and please correct me if im wrong) are higher prices lack of interior refinements such as satnav, electric leather seats Only the option of 2 colours, silver or black Also.. i dont really need the better suspension or the slightly lighter weight. An m3 on its own will be a good upgrade to my current S3. But sitting next to a csl the m3 just looks a bit tame. Its not like im tryin got make a 318 look like an m3. just slightly enhancing the looks of the current CSL. all point taken though and i'll keep my eyes open for available cars and also keep saving the pennies. Woppum
You are correct on all the above. Apart from that the CSL has a much harsher ride and makes alot of noise. Im sure the parts fit a normal M3, I can see no reason why not, maybe e-bay is a good bet? Be prepared though. The parts are very expensive if a car goes in to you, nudged in a car park etc.
gizze
Nathan, I totally agree with you mate, the boot, the bumper and the wheels on the CSL make the E46 coupe a really, really nice looking motor. You can get these parts, wheels are only £1200 new from a dealer and I am sure one of use would order them for you with our vin number, a replica boot can be had for around £400 unpainted and the same for a replica bumper too. I am selling my CSL bumper at the moment, fine apart from the underside of it, you would never know there was some damage unless you got it up on a ramp, so they do crop up from time to time. Nothing wrong with buying an M3 and tweaking it imho, I have added the Nav to my CSL as I do like to have nav in my cars and I prefer not to use loads of stuff stuck to the screen, and I guess some people would say you shouldn't do this to a CSL, but it isn't a track only car for me. I use it daily, or most days anyway I would use it for everything if I wasn't worried about racking the miles up, in some ways I suppose I would have been better off with an M3 rather than the CSL and I can see why you would want to go for one over the CSL. gizze
haha, no I meant because I could do 30k miles a year in it and not worry about depreciation as much, I keep wanting to take this out all the time, not good for the old wallet!
